Question about Cycling

I have an Airdyne that I bought new in 1986. One of the handlebars has started wobbling and rattling. It's loose at the joint where it connects to the wheel. What size Allen wrench can I use to tend to this problem?

Yes. That's what I'm talking about.

I appreciate the quick response, but it was unhelpful. I know how to buy a complete set of Allen wrenches. I was hoping someone could tell me precisely which size would be appropriate to this problem. If no one can tell me that, it would be best to let me have my money back.

Are you talking about a Schwinn Airdyne Exercise bike?

http://www.schwinnfitness.ca/schwinn_fitness_ca/equipment/airdyne.jsp

If not, could you provide some additional details about the bike you have.

Otherwise, you can just try each allen key in the set until you find the one that fits.

Allen keys normally come in complete sets and will either contain STANDARD or METRIC sizes. You should be able to pick up either set at any hardware store for under $15. The correct key will fit snugly in the head of the bolt with no play back and forth.

Please comment back here to this page if you have any questions, additional details to add, have difficulty accessing the link, or just require further general assistance and I will respond as soon as I see it.

Thank you very much and good luck.

Joe.

Can't control the handlebars. They wobble.

IF you are saying the wobble is side to side then the main bolt that goes from the handlebars to the fork is loose.

How to replace a chain with master link on a Schwinn Airdyne

Airdyne Chain Replacement with Master link

This video will demonstrate how to replace the chain with master link on a Schwinn Airdyne.
  • First remove the cotter pin and clevis pin from the user's right handlebar. Then lower the connecting arm and handlebar.
Caution: be sure to hold the handlebar as it will come loose after removal of the above parts.
  • Remove the connecting arm and pedal and crank arm by removing the wedge pin. To simplify this process loosen the nut and tap on it with a small hammer until the pin is loosened.
  • Remove the nut, wedge pin, crank arm and connecting arm.
  • Next remove the chain guard; there are three screws attaching it as shown in the video.
  • Remove the chain by locating the master link. Remove the lock pin and the cover, and then disconnect the chain.
  • Place the new chain on the sprockets as shown in the video.
  • Install the master link, cover and lock.
  • Re-install the chain guard and attaching screws.
  • Re-assemble the connecting arm to the handlebar and eccentric.
  • Be sure the brass bushing is installed in the front inner side of the connecting arm before installing the clevis pin and cotter pin.
  • Install the crank arm with pedal.
Be sure when completing this step that the crank arm is installed in the opposite position as the users left side crank arm.
  • Install the nut onto the wedge pin and tighten.
  • This completes the procedure.

Why does my 1993 Jeep Cherokee 4WD wobble real bad when I hit a bump going 55 mph?

Ball joints, tie rod ends, pitman arm end, cracked suspension or front frame, loose steering gear, rotated axle housing, bad shock absorbers, unbalanced drive shaft, bad universal joint, loose lug nuts, loose axle shaft nut, bad wheel bearings... go through it ALL, very carefully.

The handle bar got very loose while i was using it it suddenly went to the left this is a staionary bike the schwin areodyne can i fix this? i cannot afford repairs seems there is a big lug nut holdind...

http://www.fitnessrepairparts.com/diagram/113 This is an on-line link to the schematics for your Airdyne. The large nut between the handlebar (foot part) and the wheel hub are supposed to be pretty snug. Tighten the nut using a 6 or 8 adjustable wrench and tighten the nut clockwise. Be careful not to tighten too hard or the handlebar will not move at all. This is a very easy fix.

Front tire is wobbling and making loud wobbling sound as well as a rattling sound like a loose bearing. how do i troubleshoot and fix

It sounds like you need to have the wheel bearing replaced. If you do one, have the other done as well, and have them (if 4 wheel drive) check the u-joints on the front end as well. It could be this too.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

Rattle noise coming from front driver side wheel when going over bumps

It could be several things.

1. Strut is worn and the rod is rattling.
2. The ball joint or control arm are worn. A new control arm comes with the ball joint and a new bushing.
3. The inner and/or tie rod end is worn, allowing the wheel to rattle.

Raise the car and support it. Twist the wheel back and forth while observing the tie rod. Look for play in the inner and outer connections. If this is ok, place a pry bar under the tire and lift up while observing the ball joint and control arm. You should not see any play. Look at the strut. Look for oil on the housing. Look for play in the rod or a loose connection.

Handlebars loose

Construct shims from aluminum (soda / cola) cans with scissors. Be careful not to cut yourself, sheared aluminum is very sharp. After you have cut a wide strip of aluminum, wrap it around the handlebar and put it between the handlebar and the clamps. This will increase the diameter of the handlebar and allow your clips to exert more pressure on the handlebars making them tighter. Try not to leave any aluminum exposed after fixing it; it's sharp.
