Question about GE 30 in. Profile JP350 Electric Cooktop

Open Question

Burner stays at high setting no matter what

One of the burners on my JP350 comes on but goes full bore and can not be controlled.  Figure it might be the control switch that is bad, but having problems identifying the exact switch part number I need.  It is the front right burner that can also be switched to a smaller heated surface area.
Can anyone identify the part I need to find?

I have the same problem- burner stays on high and that is the most used burner - front right.

    Can you fix yourself?

I have the same problem. It is with the dual diameter burner. It tripped the breaker once. Also the burner on indicator remains very dimly lit when all burners are off.

SOURCE: only high setting works on burner

Sounds like the Switch or the element are bad, try trouble shooting them. It's a stove top??

SOURCE: Burner only cooks on high heat.

You need the switch for that burner. The contacts inside are stuck together. You will need to pull the unit and separate the glass from the lower body to access it. To get the right switch you need full model and serial number located on a plate at the bottom of the unit.

Your ability to perform this is dependent on how mechanical you are. The Whole unit must be removed from the counter opening and the base unscrewed from the glass, remove knobs before disassembling. For someone mechanical this is not difficult. De-energize whole unit first.

Once the two pieces are separated the remainder is mechanically easier. Disassemble the box on right containing the switches and replace the correct one. Reverse the process for reassembly. Good Luck

By replacing the switch it will work on the various settings and not just high.

The right front burner will only run on high no matter the setting

This is usually the infinite switch has failed. They are easy to check and inexpensive. There is a video at www.appliancehelponline.com/servicemanual.html that will walk you thru testing this. It may be a different model but the testing will be the same. You will need to remove the cook top from the opening to access the switch. You can also enter your model # for diagrams and illustrations for your specific model. Not all models are available. All parts come with installation instructions.

Burner always on high

I have had this same problem on the JP350.

I have replaced the switch several times, and am now tempted to replace the heating element and the switch the next time it becomes constant (currently, it is intermittent... which has led to some burnt food).
