Question about Goldstar Heating & Cooling
Hi, you need to locate the data plate for this unit. It will have the voltage, amps for compressor and blower motor, freon amount in pounds and oz., . If this is a older unit, it will be R-22 refrigerant. A new one will have 134-A, R-404, FX56, and so on. If you are going to charge this yourself, and it has no freon in it at all, you will need to find and repair the leak first. If you have done this already, you will need to pull a vac on the unit to remove any air and moisture that has entered the unit from the leak. This is a MUST!! You say it is a room a/c, so it will not hold very much, more like ounces. If there are service valves on the unit to charge it, and you have the gauges to do this, you can charge it without knowing the amount it holds. According to the type freon, use the scales on the low side gauge to get your evaporator temperature at around 40 degrees F. The pressure will be at around 68p.s.i.. I hope this has been of help to you. You need to have some no how to be able to do this properly. Good Luck, and please keep me posted.
