Question about Computers & Internet

ASUS stopped supporting their small Eee PC antivirus software with updates - Linux Eee PC 701 4G. Can you help with a re-install of e.g. Clamav or do an online virus scan?

The OS is Linux Xandros/debian. Your solution was for windows according to the download requirements. This was no answer at all unless I am totally misunderstanding. Linux was clearly in my question.

Assuming that you need a reliable Antivirus software (freeware) for the Windows operating system of your ASUS Eee, I suggest you the free version of Avast Antivirus (more details and comparison list at Antivirus-download">this link). You can download it from this link. I prefer Avast Antivirus software rather than the ClamAV because of the real time scanner (ClamAV has a very limited real time scanner). I've periodically used both of them and I prefer Avast.

In case of a problem or clarification or further details needed, don't hesitate to post me a reply before rejecting my answer.
If you are satisfied, accept my solution.

Since you need Antivirus for Linux operating system you can use the proper version of Avast (take a look at this link). At the end of the page are the download links. Sorry if I misunderstood your request but most of the users of Asus Eee are using the windows platform.

Try Linux Ubuntu Version 10.04 for netbooks... Or the stable 9.10. You can easily create a bootable USB flash drive to test BEFORE fully installing.

Took OS off my 2 g surf and now want to re-install it. have another 2G to get the OS. How do I get Os off one and onto another?

Hi, which os are you wanting reinstall.
If it is xp , then do you not have the original copy.
If it was Linux/ubuntu then this is free and can be downloaded.
There is this link which may help-
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?model=Eee%20PC%202G%20Surf/Linux&SLanguage=en-us

You should find all software and update on there that may install like it used to be , but not with xp.
You cannot just take an OS from one and put it on another, it is Illegal and will infringe on licence issues with microsoft.
If you need more help, please ask.

We have a LINUX Suse server. We have this nhatquanglan virus on our XP machines. I can do a system restore on the XP's and all functions (task manager, device manager, etc) that were disabled by the virus...

System restore on XP is restoring individual PC stations but because you have probably shared folders on linux server you have same problem on server. Solution:
  • Remove network cable from linux server
  • Install some antivirus solution for linux server (in case you don't have one) and scan and clean server from viruses.
  • Also after you remove network cables from workstations scan and remove viruses from XP stations
  • When you finish those steps atach network cables and probably you will not have that problem
Reason for that is becausesome viruses and trojans are spreading through shared folders

Problem with my brand new Eee-PC,after setting it up nicely and adding two admin accounts(ie:am using the XP version!) and creating the user account passwords was fine for logging in on the first days use...

You can simply change your password. Standard OS IS Linux. With CTRL-T you can open a Terminal, then you can type:
man passwd <ENTER>
to view a brief help text for the command. Read it and you can change your password from the command line with a single command.

passwd user password <ENTER>

I dont no how to conect my asus eee pc 2gb to my broadband so i cant use my pc

AOL does not support Linux, so you cannot install their software. Did you tell them you had a Linux PC?

To help further you must explain what your 'network' is.
Do you have a wireless network or do you use ethernet cable?
You should be able to have internet access without needing AOL software.
Please give details of your network and equipment.
Thanks
