Where is the fan the blades broke from? Did they attach to a "Hub" on the motor shaft? What are they made of? Thank you.

Hi, and yes it has a collar on the prop that is either held on the shaft by a set bolt, or allen screw that holds it to the shaft. This must be a window/wall unit you have, sounds like it. Yes, you can do this, just take your time and it will slide off. Before you install the new prop, take a piece of sanding cloth and clean up the shaft. Add some oil and it will slide right on. Tighten the set screw and your all set. Spin it by hand to make sure it isn't hitting anything. Just take the old pieces, name, model, and serial numbers with you to a appliance parts store to get a new one. Good Luck to you.

Makita slide compound- Saw Blade. LS0714

It seems as though the original blade was fitted without a spacer. These usually come with any new blade. It is simply a washer (usually aluminium) that fits in the hole of the saw blade and reduces the hole diameter down to the size of the flange on your saw. This is common practice. Never try and centre a blade without the correct size hole to flange size. Very dangerous. These washes are really cheap and can be obtained from most hardware stores. Usually in an assortment of different outside and inside diameters to suit any circumstance. Hope this helps, cheers Bob.

Loss of power when blades engaded.

Remove deck belt from blade pulleys and Tri to spin blades by hand. If they don't spin freely, you probably need new spindle bearings but if you do need a new spindle I would replace the whole spindle housing... Just make sure the one (s) you buy has housing, spindle, bearings, nut and washer.

Need to change the spindles on model 917.273220 craftsman tractor

The job is much easier and safer with compressed air and an impact. I would try really hard to find someone with air to borrow but if no air is available then wedge a piece of 4x4 between the blade and deck to keep the blade from spinning. BEWARE, the board can pop out and the spinning blade can be dangerous. Remove the deck from the unit. Remove the pulley first, hold the blade with your hand ( only if you have air/ impact) to prevent the spindle from spinning. Note the washer under the pulley. Then remove the blade, then the spindle bolts. Most AYP replacement spindles now come pretapped but if not place spindle in a vice and use one of the old spindle bolts ( they are self tapping) to make threads in the mounting holes. Then mount the new spindle in reverse order being sure to instal the washer between the spindle housing and the pulley. Again hold the blade with one hand and securely tighten the pulley nut with an impact. Also the unit probably has a blade brake arm and the spring holder is mounted by one of the spindle mounting bolts. Pay attention to its positioning before removal. If you have a heavy duty replacement spindle the notch on the bracket may not fit the new spindle. with a file or grinding wheel enlarge the notch on the bracket to fit.

How can i remove the blade on a 10" dayton axial

Most of these have a set screw on the side of the fan that keeps it connected to the shaft. It is usually a hex or allen type screw that is recessed into the fan blade shaft. Once it is loose you should be able to slide the fan off the shaft.

I have an old Sears Jig Saw, model 110 25710, that has a broken blade. I need a new blad and instructions on how to remove the broken one, and replace it with the new one. Can you offer any assistance?

Take a look at the point of blade locking to the tool. Should be 2 hexagon bolts. Using the right size tool, unscrew them carefylly, pull out the broken blade, go to your local hardware store, and get a new one that will have the same size on the tail. ( the side that gets inside the slide on the saw). Slide the new blade to the saw, and tighten the bolts back but do it equally twisting them in turns, half a turn each time to keep the blade staying straight.
Whole thing should last no more than 5 min. ( Remember to keep the power cable unplugged all the time you make the change. Your fingers are priceless).

I have a troy bilt riding lawn mover, it cuts the grass uneven, changed blades thinking it was the problem, but it wasn't. do they have any kind of adjustments for the blades?

The best bet is to work on the deck with it removed from the tractor. You may find the bearings are out in one of the spindles. Quite often someone hits something and the deck housing is bent where the spindle bolts to it. Use a tape measure and measure the distance from the deck to the blade. Compare the two spindles (3 if it's 3 blades) . You'll find one spindle is tilted so that it is not 90 degree to the deck. What I do is once I've located the offending spindle, and which direction it is tilted, I remove the blade, slide a piece of pipe about 4' long over the spindle (usually 1-1/2 or 2" pipe) so it clears the hub and bend it. Then I reinstall the blade and measure it again.

Blade won't spin

Check the blade with it off the base and make sure that it spins freely. Check the spindle on the base and see if it feels hard to turn. If the spindle turns too easy , then the connection inside the base is broken and needs replacing.

Removing ceiling fan blades

Wait? Why would you want to remove the blade? Are they broken? Is the fan unbalanced? Try cleaning the blade. If the fan still wobbles, try tightening the screws. If the fan still wobbles, Unscrew the blade and unconnect the blade from blade iron. Buy the new blade iron. If the blade is broken, Also buy the new blade.
