Hi , I bought a HDD from samsung model hm500ji , it has less than 3 months and isn´t working anymore. I use it in a case and it isn´t recognized by the notebook (USB) RUNNING W7. Usually when I have troubles I take the HDD and put it in the notebook directly and run Hirens, then I can see the files and folders , not this time. I did run the utilities from Samsung but none of them are helping me to see the DATA in the disc , is very weird because this HDD hasn't been handled badly. Verbatim sell this disk as an external hdd , but is a proper 2,5 inch , once I attached the enclosure in an XP machine an suddenly stop working and isn´t recognized by W7 anymore!! I run spinrite to recover bad sectors , It worked fine (some bad sectors restored) but still doesn´t pop up on 7.

There is a mechanical sound ,like in a loop , trying to read sectors I guess , it takes a bunch of time to ask me "the disk need to be formatted"

Anmazingly this model hm500ji doesn´t figure in the
    www.samsunghdd.com site , very bad.

any geek able to help me? thanks

  1. Open Computer Management by clicking the Start button Hello i' have a question - 4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33.png, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, clicking Administrative Tools, and then double-clicking Computer Management. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

  2. In the Navigation pane, under Storage, click Disk Management.

  3. Right-click an unallocated region on your hard disk, and then click New Simple Volume.

  4. In the New Simple Volume Wizard, click Next.

  5. Type the size of the volume you want to create in megabytes (MB) or accept the maximum default size, and then click Next.

  6. Accept the default drive letter or choose a different drive letter to identify the partition, and then click Next.

  7. In the Format Partition dialog box, do one of the following:

    • If you don't want to format the volume right now, click Do not format this volume, and then click Next.

    • To format the volume with the default settings, click Next.

  8. Review your choices, and then click Finish.

If that "usb" behind harddrive meant that you have external drive, then you can just format it in my computer, right click drive you want to format and I would suggest NTFS file system.
