Question about Toshiba Satellite A75-S209 Notebook

1 Answer

I have a power problem with a Toshiba A75-S209. It had been operating properly until a week ago. It suddenly won't run on AC power; it keeps defaulting to run off battery even when the AC power adapter is plugged in. The light on the AC power adapter comes on, and the left light on the front of the laptop comes on (signifies that the laptop is plugged in), so it is "seeing" the AC power connection. When plugged into AC power with the battery installed, the battery will charge when the computer is turned off, but when the computer is turned on, it runs on the battery until the battery dies and the laptop shuts off. With the AC power plugged in and the battery removed, the laptop won't even turn on. It sometimes runs for as much as 40 seconds, but as soon as it tries to turn on the screen, the light signifying it's trying to access the battery will flash orange then the laptop will turn off. Sometimes it only takes a couple seconds before this sequence happens & it turns off. Have tried booting it completely then shutting down normally, but that doesn't change anything. Have used a compressor to blow the dust out, but no luck. Almost 2 years ago, I took it to a service shop to have them repair/solder the connections to the power jack, so am already familar with that problem. These symptoms are different. Yet, if that connection has become partially compromised, I guess the laptop might be accessing the battery to compensate for the limited power? I don't know. Maybe my ex-wife is right & God just doesn't like me. ;-> I sure would appreciate any insight into the problem or suggestions on resolving it. I'm about one step away from using this laptop to play frisbee golf with my trash can. Thanks much in advance for your time. joel

Try using a different adapter and see if the problem persists. If so, then change the power supply and try using a new adapter again.

Toshiba Satellite A75-S209 (PSA70U-09700E) PC Notebook will not start.power lights come on for both the battery and DC. There is no fan or hard drive sound.power button does not light up. pushing the...

Hi,

Take out the battery and try booting the machine on AC power only. If the machine boots up then let the operating system load up, the shut it down. Remove the AC jack and put the battery back in again, then power it up.

If it boots all is well if it doesn't then there could be a problem with the battery.

If the laptop won't start on AC power, what you could do is remove the system memory, clean the brass pins and the slots and then re-seat them/it.

Then try to turn the machine on.

Good luck.

Toshiba Satellite L15-S104, Model PSL10U-01X02F--A COMPLETE LEMON! 2-14-08 I purchased a Toshiba laptop in May 2005 at Best Buy in Montclair, California and all was good for a short time. Less than a year later I began to have so many problems. I took laptop to Best Buy Geek Squad and the hard drive had to be replaced! I had an extended warranty, so not any cost to me. I continued to have problems with the laptop and in took my laptop back to the Geek Squad in January 2008 and was told the laptop needed a motherboard at the cost of over $600! The warranty had ended. I have called Toshiba apx 4 times and finally given to a case manager and left on hold each time from 10 to 17 minutes! I have left messages and not anyone has returned my call. I have requested that my laptop be replaced. Christine Honea-Takata CHoneaTakata@msn.com Ever since I bought my laptop in December of 2004, I've had nothing but problems. My laptop overheats and shuts down repeatedly, the screen freezes, my sound only works 75% of the time, etc, etc. I have a stack of paperwork from the Geek Squad for numerous repairs - they've replaced everything at least once, some parts multiple times. They finally told me it was a lemon and that they were sending it in so that I could get a new lap top....6 weeks later I hadn't heard anything and called them - the usual waiting on the line, talking to 4 different people, them saying they'll call me back. A few days later I still hadn't heard back from them so I called again - same run around. They then told me that my lap top wasn't a lemon and that there was nothing they could do for me. I bought an extended warranty (3 years) and it's been in every few months - also meaning I'm without my blimmin' lap top for at least 2 weeks at a stretch. After my warranty ran out, I "gave up"...what more could I possibly do? The machine was a lemon from the start but Toshiba won't own up to anything. However, I know there was a class action law suit filed...haven't heard anything about it for the past year or so. I wouldn't touch a Toshiba with a ten foot pole. Terribly disappointed, angry and frustrated. I've lost huge amounts of data and had nothing but problems with customer service.
