The rule of thumb is that if you can put your hand in it, then it is okay for the machine. If it is too hot then you will distort the container. Once distorted it can't be fixed, and will need replacing. As for cleaning liquid, this goes in what is called the solution container, and once again, any liquid/chemical needs to be of a strength that you can safely put your hand in.
The smaller container in the back under the release handle it the cleaning solution resevoir. The larger one in the front is for the hot water. It has an internal bladder that holds clean water in this larger container, while returning the dirty to the outer bladder chamber. Both need to be filled with water at the very least in order for the machine to work. If either goes empty, the machine will stop working.
Inside the main tank is another container for clean water.
To fill it, lay machine all the way down. Lift handle and remove container. Take to sink, turn handle, and remove lid. Fill with hot, clean water. Replace and lock the lid. Place container back into tank and put handle down.
Sometimes it's to put the lid on the water and soap container so that's it's not completely sealed. This can happen due to the gasket in the cover becoming dislodged or it's also possible to screw the cap on in an uneven manner. I would check the seal inside the cap/cover and make sure that it is screwed on properly. If it isn't the container leaking, it could be a broken hose, etc. I would check the container first. Good luck!
I think you have two problems. The leaking is old seals on either the containers, or on the other end (the machine). Try replacing them. There are various part websites for these.
The problem with the spraying could be the belt that turns the pump. Check it. If it's there its probably not it. The next thing could be the little plastic tubes that go to all the componets inside the machine tend to accumulate buildup. Make sure they are all flowing free. Next try the heating element (its inside the handle area) take it apart and clean it. If all those things are checked and it still doesnt work, it might be what was wrong with mine. The all on one container that holds fresh water and dirty water has a leak. I found mine would spray correctly if i had the lid off the container, and as soon as i would put the lid back on it would stop spraying. I found out that The suction going through the container to **** the dirty water in was also putting a suction on the clean water bladder which caused the water to stop flowing out of the clean water bladder. I ended up getting an all new container with bladder because i could not get anything to seal right due to its age and warpage of the plastic. So to determine if yours is the same issue. Just take the lid off the container and then try to spray water. It may take 10 seconds to get all the tubes primed again because the suction will actually **** all the water back up to the container. If you dont want to replace the container, just spray a few passes with the lid off, then put the lid back on to **** the water back up. Hope this helps. I might not write clearly for everyone to understand, but i hope it helps someone.
I have the same series - The steamvac deluxe 1500 has two containers, one that is on top is for putting the cleaning solution/water in and the bottom container pulls up the residue/dirt. The top container has a nozzle that you twist out, you put the water in until it reaches the line which is 3/4's up the way. You then measure the nozzle (it has two lines) and put the cleaning solution in there and then into the water.
Hope this answer's your question.
MOST COMMON PROBLEM IS THE ATTACHEMENT VALVE IS BROKEN WHERE YOU CONNECT FOR WATER ON SIDE OF MACHINE. THESE MODELS USE AN ELECRONIC SOLONOID TO ACTIVATE WATER TO NOZZLE IF IT IS COMING OUT THERE SOLONOID MAY BE BAD
