1) Turn off your wireless router and unplug the external hard drive you want to make wireless.
2) Plug an Ethernet cable to the "Network-attached storage" device, and the other end of the cable to an available Ethernet port on your wireless router.
3) Connect one end of the USB cable to the wireless router's available USB port and the other end of the USB cable to your "External" hard drive.
4) Turn on the both the Wireless router and the External hard drive. Make sure that your Internet connection is still working.
5) Insert the installation CD and run it on your computer. Follow the installation instructions and install any utilities related to your external hard drive. There may be special utilities provided for flash drives that are not needed for hard drives.
6) Create a login name and security password for the "NAS" device during the setup process. When the installation process is completed, you will now be able to use your external hard drive.

Connecting Seagate Backup Plus Desktop drive (STCA3000101) to Belkin N750 wireless router.

Usually you don't need to setup any additional settings or creating new users on the Belkin router to access an USB HDD attached to it, if you used the Belkin Router Manager to set it up.

The Seagate drive you are using have it's own power supply, so that should not be a problem. Also the accepted formats are FAT16, FAT32 and NTFS formatted HDD.

You can try to set it up again using the manager. This is the user manual for your router, if it helps:
http://www.belkin.com/networking/manual/MAN_F9K1103_8820-00778_RevA01_N750.pdf

If you still can't get it working, let me know and we will try to find another solution.

Need documentation on how to attach WD PassPort HDD to Belkin N+ router using usb port on router ... to be accessed by Windows 7

Gather and connect all necessary connecting cables. You need an Ethernet cable to go from the box linking the hard drive to your wireless router in one of the open ports on the back of your wireless router, and a USB cord connecting your external drive to the storage link box (unless you are using a flash memory device or stick drive).Power up the devices. Make sure your Internet connection Is working and that the storage device is working properly.Insert the Setup CD into your computer. Follow the instructions and install any necessary utilities for the specific type of external drive you are using. Configure the storage link. During setup you should have been given the option to secure the device with a login name and password. Open the device and log in. Make any changes you want to on the storage device, but if you aren't sure what specific changes you want to make to the default settings, leave the default settings alone to avoid creating problems.

WD My Book 1TB not recognised by belkin modem router USB storage

If I understand correctly ... You have not connected the drive to a computer.

If I am not mistaken the WD My Book has preinstalled backup software installed on it. It very well might also have a power down built as part of that programming. Try attaching it to a computer to verify this.

Assuming the backup software needs blank drive to work correctly I would first access the drive select all and delete anything you find (if you know how to unhide hidden files do that before you select and delete all) ... As a 2nd option I would just reformat the drive.

Hope that helps....

I have a work around for this.

In the detail of the Belkin manuals it says you can attach up to 4 USB storage devices via a USB HUB.

I had an old Hub so I Connected the HUB to the router and the Maxtor to the HUB --- It worked :-) It came up in a few seconds.

At first I powered the HUB but later took the power out of the hub and it still worked ;-} However when I used a different HUB it would not work without power to the HUB.

The HUB I use is an old Belkin 4 port Tetra Hub. The newer 7 port Belkin HUB (5 Rear 2 Top) only worked with the HUB powered.

Hope this helps untill Belkin Upgrade the Router sofrtare.

This is not as complicated as it may sound. You don't need the manager. Bring up the "run" window (XP - Start - Run / Vista Alt-R). Enter the following address [\\192.168.2.1] press enter. The drive will show up. Right click on it and select Map Network Drive. You can then uninstall the useless program from Belkin.
