I did not enter my own recipe. I was using "baked potato" from the menu.

The advice offered by the first expert was not for my oven. There is no button to open the door on the microwave.

There can be two reasons for the processor to pause while on the program.
In the first place the speed cook mode uses the microwave int he highest power range. So the demand for power is high which is needed to be checked if the power plug or the connection gets hot while the microwave works. This means the power is restricted and so the processor senses an error to pause.
Secondly the Magnetron can be faulty, the connections, the HT transformer or the HT capacitor. If these are weak then there will be error in the current demand and so will force the processor to wait.
Check all connections, connectors, power control and clean the main board.-- specially if you have noticed any insects within or the set was kept off for a long time.

It sounds like you may have pressed START/PAUSE while creating your own "Speed Cook Recipe". If this was done, it will repeat this each time the the Speed Cook is told to repeat the last recipe. For more information on this read the "Speed Cook" information in the Owner's Manual.
If you do not have an Owner's Manual, you can download one for free at GE Support Literature

The only other thing I can even guess at, would be a defective door switch. It may "think" that you are pushing the button to open the door when you are not. Make sure the door is closing securely. Other than that, you may have to take it to a service center or have a technician come out to your house.

It sounds like instead of an overheated magnetron thermostat tripping the power, you now have a defective door switch.

Our door switch help file is here.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

The SE indicates a short in the keypad membrane, but to cure this! the whole keypad control board should be changed if effort to resolve is decided, I would also suggest checking the pricing.

I have a GE Spacemaker microwave, Model #JVM140H 002, manufactured March, 1990. Sometimes when it is cooking, it switches to a "timer" mode. Other times, I cannot get it to cook - it just goes to...

The problem is in the keypad controller, the microprocessor is mounted on a circuit board along with other parts behind the keypad. Now if this can be repaired it will come down to the availability of a replacement keypad module, you would need to check with the manufacture to see if they carry any stock and price. There might be a possibility that a appliance repairman or tv technician may be able to repair the module if replacement is not available.

you will need to replace the circuit board. Chancers that the key pad is also faulty are slim. Quote model at spares shop and get exact board.

Microwave runs but does not heat or cook food

If a Goldstar, LG or Zenith MV1610 or MV1608 is running but not seeming to heat a load placed in center of turntable, its probably because the "stirrer" intended to spread microwaves generated by the magnetron around the cook chamber is stuck so that most all the heating is directed toward the back and top rather than the center of the cook chamber. This usually occurs after cooking for longer than a minute with no load in the cook chamber - as when a model w/o a timer (such as a MV1608) is intentionally operated in cook mode to serve as a kitchen timer, or when a model with a timer function (such a MV1610) is accidentally operated for longer than a minute w/o any load. Before assuming the magnetron (usually warranted for 5, 8 or even 10 years) or other high voltage component such as diode or capacitor needs to be replaced, try “cooking” a 16 oz pyrex cup of water at full power on the outer edge of the turntable for 2-3 minutes - which usually reactivates the "stirrer" and restores normal cooking function.

Was cooking in microwave and it totally shut off. Light went out and stopped. After a while "PF" appeared on the panel. What caused this to stop and what do I do to get it back working? My...

If it goes dead for a while during or after cooking then comes back on, the magnetron is probably overheating and causing the magnetron thermostat to open.

Then when it cools, it closes the circuit and allows power through again.

First of all, be sure the internal cooling fan is running. That's critical to protect the magnetron by keeping it cool.

You can test this by running the microwave with a cup of water inside. First, cook for about 2 minutes on the lowest power setting and see if it makes it to the end. Then cook on high for 2 minutes and see if it makes it to the end.

If the defrost test works, but the full power test does not, then the magnetron is overheating.

If you or someone you know wants to look into this, we have critical safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

Microwave heated food an hour ago but has stopped heating it now. Sensor cooking ceases and displays "F3H". Fan has stopped working also.

A make and model would have been nice, but try unplugging it from the wall outlet for 15 minutes.

Hope that helps...
