Question about Apple iTunes

Hello. I have a huge multimedia collection. I kept

Hello. I have a huge multimedia collection. I kept it on an external HD. I have a back up on another HD. The first one broke, so I switch, but Itunes can't find the library files. So it sees all my files but I can't access them. I've been trying to have a safe way to manage this problem since our home pc broke and we lost almost everything inside..... also to keep the pc faster and the MM files safe.. and now I can't use Itunes with all the apple devices because "they are sinced with another library"....I don't know how to do. I am willing to start everything from the beginning, but so what can I do about the apple devices? How can I keep copy of this "library file" for emergency use ( like now)? This on the family pc. THEN I just received an apple computer ( not mac book) and I wish to do the same there.. keep the media files on an external HD but I don't know how do it. All my files are legal, but not all of them were bought on Itunes. many were bought on different ( cheaper) platrforms. How can I solve this problem definetely? Many thanks if someone will help me I'll be grateful Francesca

This doesn't work, didn't work. I always have 2 external HD ( 1 tera each ) just half full, one is the back up of the other. But some time ago, when one was broken ( it happens, that's why I have the back up one) the "library file *itl." could not be located ( may be was on the broken HD? I guess so.) so what I have to do? start again creating a new library adding all the multimedia files again? I did it. THEN when plugging any apple device I got the "This i-xxx is sinced with another library you are going to erase all the media on it if proceeding with the operation ( traslation from italian, more or less the meaning is this).

All of this on the PC.

On the mac I wish to avoid all this mess, and I have to keep the media files on external HD, because I want the computer to be fast and empty, but.. how can I do?Where is located this itunes library file? isn't possible to have a copy of it either?

I am so fed up with this itunes. is nothing but clear to use. But of course, having the I-XXX things all the family need it.

To download and save everything from the devices I was thinking to buy a software, any advice on a reliable and easy one?

You can try with this solution, first go to My Documents > My Music.

Here rename your itune library.itl as itune library.itl.(any name).

Re-copy your all data from old to new library, and then try. As per your problem you can do another thing and that is- as per other's who faced this problem before- first make a new folder in your itune library, then backup your all data, and then move them to library.xml folder.

The only way you may be able to solve this issue is to buy one larger external HDthat has enough memory for all your media plus some growing room to put all your itunes media on. All media to be synced to itunes must be on the same HD. It doesn't matter if you bought it from itunes, as long as it is a compatible format, it should find it and add it to your library if it is all in the same location.

Hope that helps.

You could simply use the songs you already have on your externals and create a new library with them so there is a new library file. In the future, I would recommend using the backup your library feature through itunes so that you can simply restore your entire library from that. It's too bad you can't restore from the ipod (that is without renaming all the songs)

Make sure that all the connections inside in your computer are secure - also- makesure that no dust has collected in the machine. Sometimes when moving wires come unplugged and dust moves around and can break connections.

Then- Back up the driver - just in case.

Please go to my computer, right click properties, and click hardware and then device manager.

Scroll to the bottom of the list.

and delete the USB's -

Turn off your computer. Plug in your Drive.

Wait for about 8 sec.

Turn it on.

Now is it reading your drive?

Hello. It sounds like your external hard drive has crashed, or is getting ready to crash. If you can back up your data, you should do it now. If not, you should get your drive to a professional as soon as possible.

I'll monitor this thread. If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.

Hello?????????! Where have you been living these last five years?? Under a rock in Podunk, Iowa?? Remember when VHS was duking it out with Betamax back in the 1980s? VHS eventually won in 1988. Now it is the 21st century and BlueRay and HD-DVD just concluded their war for supremacy of the new recording/viewing format.
In other words, your HD DVD will not play on your DVD machine. You can either stick with DVDs or buy a new machine. Read the paper; listen to talk radio, listen to a podcast; BE INFORMED.

Quark picture files

Since you're copying your Quark file to an external HD, I assume that you're also copying the image files? What you should do before copying to the external HD to work on the file at home is under the File Menu, use the 'Collect for Output' feature, which may take a while depending on the size of your file, number of images, etc., but then you can use the Quark file from the xternal hd, and back and forth to your computer without having to relink the picture files all the time.
