Question about Philips Electronics - Others

Open Question

My Philips DVDR3570H 160 GB is about 2 years old but I have used it not more than 8 to 10 times. Recently when I tried using it, the thing did not work. It keeps attempting to boot and after a while goes in sleep mode. I gave to one of the Philips service centre and they inform me that the mother board has problems and that the Company is no longer supplying spars for this. I would be grateful if you provide me insight and further course of action. Thank you. Best regards Jamshed Cooper Mumbai, India

click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Sounds like a bad graphics card. Try using monitor wit another computer and see if the problem still exists. This rules out the display.

First thing, reset the outlet. That's a common thing looked over. Next (if that doesn't work) is pull out the warranty papers because if it isn't the outlet, then it's the product. If you have had it for less than a year, they should allow you to use your warranty and have them fix it.

Disk drawer will not open on DVDR3570H

This is a common problem. There are a couple different things you can do. One is use a paper clip and pry the door tray open. Use the clip to pull down the door and pull the tray out.
Or unplug the unit for 10 seconds. Then press and hold the eject button. Then continue to hold the button while power on the unit and see if it opens.

Yes, you should turn the HD off when not in use. The direct drive mechanism is constantly turning when current is applied. Turning off the unit will preserve it. Four years is quite a long time for a hard drive and may need replacement soon.

For Seagate and Western Digital 160 Gb SATA 7200 rpm hard drive for notebook use, which one is better and which one have longer warranty and live longer?

You didn't really note a specific WD drive, but if they have the same capacity and RPM, they're usually quite similar in every other way (transfer speed and things like that) Any differences would be mostly un-noticeable for the average user.

Regarding how long they last, it doesn't make a difference who you go with, as these are pretty much the top 2 competitors as far as hard drives go, and neither have the upper hand over each other in this respect. There's no specific life expectancy for drives. Some go 5 years, others longer. Some croak in 2 months. A couple of factors that could contribute to that are temperature within the laptop and how heavily it's used. I have a desktop drive from 1998 that still works, although I rarely use it now.

The biggest difference you'll see between Seagate and WD is the warranty length. Seagate has recently reduced their warranty length to 3 years from 5 years for all of their products. As for Western Digital, it depends on the model. It'll be either a 5 year or a 3 year.

Hope this helps :)

DVDR3570h is stuck in standby, cannot turn on

I had this problem, it was solved by reformatting the hard-drive.

NOTE: if you do this, all settings and all that is saved on the harddrive is lost. But seeing that you can't start it anyway, that is acceptable, right? :)

Anyway, here's how you do it, according to Philips support:

  1. Pull out the power cord from the socket.
  2. Press and hold PREV and STOP (i.e. left and down) on the front panel.
  3. Plug the power cord into the socket again.
  4. Wait until the front panel says "FMT KEY" to let go of the buttons. Wait for it to finish formatting, upon which you will get "-- --" on the panel.
Restart the box and you should now end up at a screen asking you to set the language for the box, as if being started for the first time ever.

Also of note: if you want to restore the firmware to factory settings, Philips support told me to pull the cord, press and hold the STANDBY button, and plug it back in again. For the looping problem though, I didn't need that.

Philips DVDR3570H HDD DVD player Recorder - done basic set up last night but the start up search for analogue channels returned 0 - speant 2 hours re arranging plugs & it still wouldn't locate them? do...

The DVDR3570H will only find analogue channels if you have a TV aerial connected to it.

If you only have a satellite or cable box, then you can still use the recorder, but you will have to use the AV inputs on the recorder. In this case you will only be able to record the satellite or cable channel you are watching.
