SOURCE: Brother XL-2220 ND Sewing Machine.
got a machine handed down to me from my grandmother but she didn't teach me how to thread it. can some one please help me?
SOURCE: My brother sewing machine is new and I've checked
Yes. Open the bobbin and u will see a screw pressing down a metal sheet, which is actually a spring.
This is meant for adjusting the top tension. Loosen this screw by quarter or half a turn and see if it is giving the desired result. You may have to try a few settings before you arrive at the even top and bottom tensions when your thread tension adjustment scale is midway position.
Please note that you adjust the thread tension on the machine to adjust the bottom tension(not the top) .
Please let me know if this solved the problem.
SOURCE: I have a Brother LS-2220
If, it were me I would call Brother at 1-877-276-8437 and order from them, I am sure that it runs less than $25.and you know that it is the right one for your machine. Just another thought, there are other parts sites online www.sewingpartsonline.com but you have to know the part number. Also, did you try super glue?
SOURCE: lost my users manual- how
The brother website has free operation manuals
On the home page,, on the left hand side down towards
The bottom look for PRODUCT MANUALS
Click on it & it will take you to another page where you can
Pick your model number & download the manual
SOURCE: the needle of my sewing
This unit has a 2 year back to base warranty.
Try removing and replacing the needle.
Unfortunately machines with predominately plastic frames are prone to misalignment that even professionals will not bother repairing because it will re-occur quickly (I have been told).
Check that the arm is in place as it should be. and the needle is not bent.
The user guide may also provide more information, check here for replacement parts and further info.
