Question about Whirlpool Dryers

Open Question

Our Whirlpool Accudry gas dryer model # LGQ8858JQ2 Serial# MLJ504704 will not heat up. Ignitor looks good, not cracked and replaced the sensor a year ago. Trouble igniting..will not heat up. Is there any way to test the sensor to see if it is bad?

Flash, did you check the thermal fuse in the back? On a gas dryer the drum will still turn if it's blown. check out the picture and post back.

SOURCE: no heat-gas dryer--Amana

There is a flame sensor on the side of the flame housing. Jump the 2 wires out and see if the ignitor glows then. If so you need a flame sensor.

I think that it's a door switch error.
Open the door and locate the door switch. Exercise the switch with your finger about twenty times then try the dryer again. You may have to replace the door switch.
Check youtube for help videos on replacing the door switch.

I have a whirlpool LGR8648pwo. Runs not heat and timer doesnt move. I found a 4 prong sensor in the back of the unit. 2 prongs have continuity and the other 2 dont. Is that bad.

If no heat at all i suspect this part HERE. This is the fuse. It kills power to the gas assembly if junk gets into the filter housing and cause an overheat condition. On electric models this same fuse kills the whole dryer. On gas models it just kills the gas. If that is good the next thing to check is the flame detection sensor mounted out side of the burner chamber. It's job is to power up the ignitor. If it is open no power can get to the ignitor. If it is good then the next thing to check is the ignitor. If the ignitor is good AND you are getting power from that control klixon you mentioned with the 4 wires on it AND you can get a little heat at first but then none at all them coils need to be replaced. Whirlpool gas dryer doesn't heat - model lgr4434aqo. We replaced the operating thermostat, but still no glow from the ignitor or sound from the gas valave assy.

Hi,
The ignitor has gone bad...you need to replace the ignitor...they crack and then they will not glow...look for a faint white line across the surface..that is where the crack is.

Here is a tip that I wrote about this problem..

Not heating up Gas Dryer

Modern gas dryers do not have a pilot light. They have an electronic ignitor (glow or spark). A glow ignitor turns on several seconds before the gas turns on and should get orange hot. A spark ignitor should make a clicking or buzzing noise.

Most likely the ignitor is bad but you can check it fairly easily to make certain. The best instructions I have found are at

http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/dryer/gdryer/check/ignitor.php

If it is the ignitor it can be replaced with a few hand tools. Remove the bad ignitor. Write down the make, model, and serial # of your dryer. Call your local appliance parts store to see if they have one it stock before driving over there.

My dryr tumbles but does not dry

Gas dryer? First thing to check is the ignitor underneath the drum. (You have to open the panel to see it)  It should glow shortly after the dryer starts, then the flame starts and the ignitor shuts off.  If the ignitor is glowing but the gas does not light then the gas valve coils may have to be replaced.  If the gas ignites but does not stay on either the flame sensor or the coils are at fault.

Electric dryer? Temperature sensor has failed or heating element has burned out.

Replace the operator coils. They are intermittant. Typical operator coils look like this:
