Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

My ice maker makes ice but it wont dump it out. The water still comes in and runs all over the freezer. The feeler arm will not move forward on it's own. It will dump the ice as long as I move the feeler arm manually.

The internal drive gear on the ice maker is stripped out.
You will need a new ice maker.

Can this ice maker be set to make more ice? And faster?

Icemakers cycle cubes from the air temperature inside the freezer so you can't do much to increase speed except adjust the freezer control colder. As to the bucket not filling, most icemakers have a feeler arm or plastic paddle that is suppose to sense the ice level in the bucket. Make sure the feeler arm or paddle at the bottom is free and no sticking or hitting anything. It needs to move freely ask the icemaker dumps the cubes. If your refrigerator is less that a year old it should be under warranty and a free repair to you.

How do I get the ice maker to produce for the first time

Is the arm that gets pushed up by the ice cubes (in order to stop making ice when it is full) in the down position? it is able to be pushed up and locked so that the icemaker doesn't make at ice and may need to be pushed down.

LG LRSC 26920tt won't make ice

In order to determine the problem you must check a few things:

1) Is there water in the ice tray? If not. verify the saddle valve is turned on, check the connection on the water valve, verify that there are no kinks in the inlet hose, and check he water filter to see if it is clogged.

2) Is the temperature correct? Make sure the fans are working properly and air is flowing. Verify the the frig and freezer are at the correct temperature and make sure the ice maker compartment door is sealing shut.

If these things check out ok, run an ice maker test. Make sure the ejector arm and feeler arm are in their original positions before beginning. If they are not:

1. Turn off icemaker and wait 5sec.
2. Turn on icemaker.
3. Wait until feeler arm and ejector are back to original positions.

To begin the icemaker test: Press and hold the test button on the icemaker for 5 seconds. If the LED, feeler arm and or ejector does not return to to their original positions the problem is with the ice maker.

Kenmore 795.5102 will not make ice

The problem is the ice maker, the modular head of the ice maker has broken, hence the clicking sound and the raised arm stuck up. You will need to have an accurate model number and contact a local parts distributor for a new ice maker. It is a simple repair usually only 2-3 screws.

The icemaker is not making ice as fast as it would before. It dumps a tray of ice about every 4 hours.

Make sure that there are no kinks in the water line.
Next, inspect the feeler arm of the ice maker and make sure that it is down and not blocked by any ice cubes. If it's raised, it has turned the ice maker off. This arm needs to be in the lowered position to activate the ice maker An over-abundance of ice in the bin will make the arm stay up as a safety feature to keep the ice maker from making more ice than the bin can hold.

Not producing ice. I've already checked the lines at the wall and the line that comes in at the freezer. They are not blocked. However, still not producing ice.

Check the following:

- The freezer temperature, it needs to be below 10 degrees F to cycle.

- If the freezer is cold enough lift the bail arm (wire on the right side of the ice maker in the freezer) until it clicks and stays up. Close the freezer and wait 20 minutes. Come back and lower the bail arm, watch the ice maker and you should see it cycle, you will notice the white 'fingers' rotating very slowly. Make sure the room is quiet, after the cycle runs for a bit, (minute or so) watch for the 'fingers' to be straight up in the 12 o'clock position, you should hear a buzz coming from behind the refrigerator for about 7 seconds. If you hear this sound then the ice maker is working and the temperature is ok. If you do not hear the buzz the most likely suspect is that the coil on the water valve in the back is bad, you will need your model number to find the right part.

Broken ice maker in a GE side by side refrigerator

Most of the time the spring just pops out of the keeper on the ice maker, If you push the feeler arm back and it does not come back out on its own then the spring has poped off. Look where the feeler arm attaches to the ice maker and there is a round spring between the feeler arm and the icemaker housing. There is one hole in the feeler arm ans one on the ice maker housing that the spring pops into. Its usually the spring is out of the hole on the ice maker housing.

Inoperative Ice Maker

The icemaker stops working because excessive water gets into the control box(where circuit board is housed) through the shaft hole of "finger" and freezes the wheels to turn the "ice-bucket-full detector rod". This stops to send the signal to open water valve.
To fix, remove the icemaker from the wall (need remove two screws - make sure power switch is OFF) and carefully separate the snap-on cable (retangular shape) and a ground cable on the bottom side of the icemaker. (Now you can remove the icemaker out of the refrigerator).
You can open the contol box (need unscrew one and carefully prop it open using a screw driver or a knife. You can unplug color corded snap-on cables for easiness to work (very simple).
You will see ice formed around the plastic gear wheel controlling the "ice-bucket-full detector rod". Remove all ice and dry all the parts in the box and put them back. Make sure all the cable are back to the matching color receptable(only fits in the right place). Connect the cable(rectangular shape) and connect the ground cable. Mount the incemaker on the wall using two screws you removed at first.
Turn the power ON and reset the system by press down the ice cube size selector until the "fingers" make a full cycle. You will see the metal rod moves up and down as system resets. During this cycle the water will be filled into the icemaker.
I believe this icemaker has a design flaw but it's very simple to correct the problem you are experiencing. You do not need much electronic or mechanical knowlege to fix this.
Best wishes

Young
