Windows 7 will not recognise vdr-m70 dvd camcorder

Panasonic supplied software for the VDR-M70 for Windows 98 through XP on the CD. Due to changes in the OS over time, the installer can't run under Windows 7. Panasonic has not updated the drivers for Windows 7 and Microsoft indicates that it is not compatible with any version of Windows 7.

There are work-arounds depending on your version of Windows 7. If you have the 32-bit OS, try using the compatibility mode. To find out which version of Win7 that you have, click Start > Control Panel > System and Security > System. If the name of the OS ends with x64, then you have the 64-bit version of the software. Otherwise, you have the 32-bit version.

For the compatibility mode, right click on the installer on the CD (browse Computer). Choose Properties and then click on the Compatibility tab. Select Always Run this program as and an older version of Windows (XP). Apply and Save your changes. Then right click again on the installer and choose Run as Administrator.

This may not work (and won't work for the 64-bit Windows 7). If it doesn't work, you need a machine with an older version of Windows. This can be a second computer, a dual boot computer or a virtual computer (if your hardware supports virtual computing). For most options, you will need a licensed copy of the older version of Windows.

If you have Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate or upgrade to one of them, you can have a virtual version of XP for free. Download and install Virtual PC and XP mode from Microsoft in order. Then install the software for the camcorder in XP mode as if it were your only computer. (Of course this doesn't help if your hardware doesn't support the Virtual PC.) Other virtual computer programs are VMWare and Parallels.

Note: you can not directly share files or hardware between the Win7 and the virtual computer. You have to put files on an external drive (optical, flash drive or other external hardware) to share them.

I hope this helps.

Hello, I have Canon Photo Paper Plus Glossy, and i want to use this to print off some passport-like photos through Brother printer. How do i do this?

If you have windows XP or later you can use thw Windows picture/fax viewer. Unfortunately I cannot insert PDF files I have created here. In picture/fax viewer you choose contact prints or wallet prints and select number of times each picture is used.

Hv a new OMNITECH Digital Photo Ornament. I connected it to my hard drive USB port and it says "connecting" on it, but that is all it does. Manuel says my "Digital Photo Viewer AP"...

It doesn't work because the Omnitech "digital Photo Ornament" is shipped with a virus. Which, thankfully, my free AVG virus protection detected and told me it can't clean up because it's on a CD (close enough, it seems to be in the photo ornament "read only?" memory? Anyway, thank you Staples for selling this virus infected Christmas photo ornament. Thank God I didn't offer this as a gift to anyone. What a gift that would have been... argggg...

Fuji j10 - my mac wont recognise it even using finepix

I had the same problem with my camera & mac.  I got this off the Fuji site and it worked for me:
If images cannot be downloaded from the camera to a Macintosh, check the status of the camera and the Macintosh and resolve the problem accordingly.

1) Check the status of the camera and Macintosh.
1. Connect your camera to the Macintosh and turn the camera on.
2. Open the "Applications" folder on the Macintosh HD.
3. Double-click "Image Capture".
* If the "Imaging device not connected" message appears, follow the steps described in [Checking the connection between the camera and PC].
4. Select "Preferences" from the "Image Capture" menu.
5. The procedure for using the Image Capture Preferences window differs depending on the OS version used. Use the correct procedure for your version of Mac OS.
- Mac OS 10.4: Click "General" in the Image Capture Preferences window.
- Mac OS 10.3: Click "Camera" in the Image Capture Preferences window.
- Mac OS 10.2: Simply proceed to the next step.
6. In "Items launched at camera connection", select "FPVBridge" and then click the [OK] button.
* If FPVBridge is not among the displayed items, follow the steps in [Displaying FPVBridge] below.
7. Quit "Image Capture".

If you implement the above procedure up to step 6, FinePix Viewer launches automatically.
* To stop FinePix Viewer from launching automatically, follow the steps in [FinePix Viewer Setup] below.
