Above the Keyboard, and directly under the LCD screen is the Keyboard Cover. This cover contains the various LED lights, and Power On button.

1) ALL power to the laptop is removed. The AC adapter (Charger) and Battery.

2) Two Philips head screws are removed from the back of the laptop, which fasten the hinge cover portion of the Keyboard Cover to the laptop.

3) A thin flat-bladed screwdriver is used to gently pop the Keyboard Cover up.

On the Right and Left sides of the Keyboard Cover, and also the middle, (Side towards the Keyboard), a small flat-tipped screwdriver is used to gently pry the Keyboard Cover up.

Use care so as to not damage the plastics, nor the wireless antenna.

every laptop is different some have screws underneath some have a part of the casing above the keyboard that can be removed by sliding it to one side revealing the screws underneath this could also house the power buttons and some unfortunately require the complete laptop motherboard etc removing first and i know with my sony this is what i had to do, so firstly check for a strip above the keyboard and try sliding it to one side, if there is a strip then youre in luck as it will normally reveal 3 screws holding down the keyboard which will allow the keyboard to lift and unclip and then you just need to unclip the ribbon cable from the motherboard, if theres no strip then you could try turning the laptop over and removing any screws that are directly under the keyboard and see if this frees it and also removing any memory and hard drive that may be hiding any screws, if this does not solve your problem then you are heading for a complete stripdown of the laptop base which unless you feel competent in doing so is best left to the experts, hope this helps

You can lift the key up and it will unclip from the key hinges. To replace the key, place the key on the hinges, align it with the other keys, press down until the key clicks onto the hinges.

Thanks for your support

Remove the keyboard screws first, the screws that secure the keyboard have keyboard symbols next to the screws.
Some Compaq/HP have slide catches along the top edge of the keyboard between the number keys and the Function keys. Usually the slide catches are located between the ESC & F1 key, F4 & F5 key, F8 & F9 keys, F12 & delete keys. Slide these catches towards the front edge of the keyboard (ie. towards the space bar) you should be able to lift the keyboard clear. Don't forget to unclip the ribbon cables on the keyboard.

Is it difficult to replace the keypad on the compaq nx 9010

Keyboards are easy, and remove in two different ways on just about all laptops. 1- There are screws on the bottom that hold it. 2- The screws are located under the power button strip at the top of the keyboard. The strip snaps into place, so lift it up on one end and work it up and off. You can find a replacement keyboard at Ebay for a decent price. Here's a couple of links that you may find a breakdown diagram for your machine.

I'm upgrading Ram Compaq R3200 laptop

Found my solution. Was under keyboard. Required opening laptop as far as possible, removing 3 screws from the back that hold the piece of plastic just above the keyboard. With flathead screwdriver lift the right corner of the plastic piece then, with the same screwdriver lift the top center of the plastic piece to remove the piece entirely. Unscrew the 4 screws that hold the keyboard (across the top) and lay they keyboard forward (toward you). THERE is the Ram.

Simply plug the ac adapter into the wall, the laptop will charge the battery itself.

Keep in mind this... in general, a laptop runs at full speed when it is plugged into the wall. When most laptops are running on battery, things are running more at 50% capacity to save on power, this giving you more battery life. A dimmer lcd and slowing the processor down when not needed are common traits.

You can use the FN key (function key) and the corresponding dim control on the keyboard to adjust the brightnedd of the backlight. It should be marked on your keyboard in a different color, like blue or maybe green (not familiar with that models keyboard).
