Re: Memorex Model MD6451R CD play - LCD readout "hold"
Looking down on the unit from above with "Memorex" reading left to right look at about one oclock. There is a switch marked hold ...turn it off. Its black on black, so its hard to see. It disables the onboard controls. The remote if you have it works either way, but when on hold it will act just as you describe.

I don't see anything online to suggest you can jog with it or otherwise jar it and expect it to play. Some players have a cache to reduce or eliminate loss of audio when the laser temporarily goes off-track.
unfortunately, the service manual for your Memorex MD6451R Personal CD Player is not available anywhere online. The manufacturers of this Unit did not make it available. I went further searching and couldn't find any.
I would suggest you contact the manufacturer of your Memorex MD6451R Personal CD Player via phone or e-mail and request for the service manual from them. They might give it to you or direct you to a dealer where you can get the service manual.
This is the best you can do to get the service manual you are requesting for.
Also there are similar manual for Memorex Cd player that you can use as a guide tool.

Try checking for dust on the laser eye, A fine, clean and very soft artists brush will do for cleaning or perhasp the CD has a miniscule scratch on the surface. You'll know if it is a scratch as the CD will always stop in the same place. CD's and DVD's should only be wiped clean with a very clean duster in the direction of from the centre hole to the outer rtim of the disc. Never ever wipe anything across the whole surface from one side to the other or wipe in a circular motion. There a quite a few products on the market that will help you keep you discs clean. Just google CD (or DVD) cleaner. CD's and DVD's are quite forgiving in how badly scratched they can be and still play. It only takes a small scratch or dent that can only be seen under magnification to deflect the laser beam off track.
It is quite possible that your Cd has a faulty optical head which does not read the data from the cd. Hence the error message. What you can do is to clean the lens of the optical head and try again . If not then you will need to replace the head but seek help if you have not attempted any electronic work as there are many delicate details to follow with the replacement specially with the solder short on the new unit. Also to evaluate the cost of the new unit is also required. Hope you try this out. Good day
Not to worrry , but there is a sliding button, knob that makes the set pause and called as HOLD. All you need to do is to slide the knob back, look at teh side of the door/set. please look carefully even if the pause is pressed twice.
I am sure you will find this out and continue to enjoy music during your treatment. I wish you luck and my prayers for a good treatment. Good day
Place a cd inside the tray and close the door. If there is a power button on the side shift it to power on. Now the display should ccome on and the cd must start turning. If you get a reading and the clock counts then plug in the headdphone jack into the small headphone socket and increase volume. If none of these happens you will have to check from thebegining. check your bateries, clean your head and check. If no display , you have a failure in the board, if display come and no reading, your opticcal unit is faulty/. I hope this helps you. Good day
