Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console

1 Answer

I have a first gen 60gb PlayStation 3 and got the YLOD or Yellow Light of Death, which is very similar to the Xbox's Red Ring of Death. What can I do, because I don't want to send my PS3 and pay a 150 to fix it?

If you look on Youtube, there are tons of videos explaining how to fix this problem. It's still a very difficult problem to solve without previous experience. I wish you the best of luck!

Concole will not work at all green light comes on then turns yellow then red nothing works any suggestions?

Hi. Your Playstation has the Yellow light of Death (YLOD). If under warranty I suggest you send back to SONY no matter how long it takes. Unfortunately this on has a 50% chance of getting repaired by a process known Re-balling. The repair place will heat up your motherboard until the processors inside the PS3 are re-balled or re-aligned. This is similar to the 3 Red Rings of Death From the X-Box. You can catch a video on you tube. Just type in PS3 YLOD or PS3 Yellow Lite of Death. Hope this helps.

send it back to sony.... its called the YLOD.(yellow light of death) same as the RROD (red ring of death) for the xbox 360. if its not under warranty then you could open it up and fix it yourself. look here.

Many of people suggesting to buy new PS3 but IMO it is better to fix it yourself. I am saying it because if you buy new one and if that also start to show same error then what you gonna do. Then it will be waste of so much money. There is lots of guides, step by step instructions and pictures that help you to fix it your own. Just visit one of this PS3 repair guides and fix your ps3 YLOD permanently

Playstation 3 turns green then yellow then red

The problem is known as a YLOD on the PS3 or Yellow Light of Death. Your PS3 is most probably a 60gb model as they are mostly known for this issue. The PS3 is fitted with a very good cooling system. Unfortunately some of the 60gb models still overheats (either the GPU or CPU). This causes the YLOD and is very similar to the XBox' s Red Ring of Death.

The best is to return the PS3 if still under guarantee. You can attempt to repair it yourself at own risk. There are no statistics on how long the fix lasts. Most of the YLOD consoles I repaired myself are still holding out and it seems the fix is more permanent than the Xbox 360 fix. Here is a link to the guide that must be followed and it works (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_Ic1_TY-GU) The other parts in the series you will find on the same page. There are 7 parts

After the fix a couple of things can be done to prevent future overheating:
Do not keep the PS3 in a confined space.
Keep it away from dust.
To enhance airflow, remove the cover over the HDD when switching it on.
Switch it off when not playing.

Yellow light for ps3

Its a hardware failure, most probably being a hard drive failure.

In the gaming circle's it's popularly called the Yellow Light Of Death (YLOD) borrowed from the infamous RROD (Red Ring of Death) of the Xbox 360.

You cannot do anything about it by yourself. You need to take it to a Sony Service Center. If you are under warranty they will replace or repair your PS3 for free. Else, you will have to cough some cash.
