The cursor jumps when I use the keyboard on the Dell E6400. Usually the cursor jumps a few steps back on the same line, but sometimes it jumps to the line above or to other places on the page

When you use the keyboard it is very likely that your palm is brushing over the mouse touchpad.

Phrases jump to another line

The Latitude you have most likely has the touchpad plus the dreaded pointing stick. The problem you are having is also known as "wandering cursor" where your cursor will move around the screen on it's own. Try these solutions:
1. Go to Dell.com and download the latest driver for your touchpad. In the touchpad properties, try to disable the pointing stick.
2. If all else fails, I have removed the keyboard and disconnected the cable for the pointing stick which always solves this problem. If you decide to take this approach, you should know your way around the inside of your laptop, take anti-static percautions, etc. You can download a service manual for your laptop from dell.com.
