Question about Cameras
This sounds like there is a stripped or broken gear in the lens assembly, not allowing the lens to initialize upon startup. The following is a link to a blog that may assist you in solving this problem:
If these suggestions don't help, the camera will have to be serviced. Take it into a camera repair shop, but get an estimate first, since the cost of repair can justify just going ahead and buying a new one.
