If it's not rated for 120v you can't just 'plug it in' unless it has a source voltage selector on it. Otherwise you will need a transformer to convert 120 to the desired voltage AND an adapter for whatever plug type you need. Google "plug converter for (whatever country)"

What do i have to do to plug my 110 air conditioner into where my 220 window unit

You need a step down transformer, to convert 220V to 110V. You can't just plug the 110V A/C unit in directly unless it is clearly marked as being suitable for multi-voltage supply (110V - 220V input).

Such a transformer has to be of sufficient capacity to handle the current, or wattage, that will be required. The Frigidaire unit in your question is a 3.5 kW cooling capacity, so the transformer would need to be about the same, ie for a 10A supply at least. They are quite big boxes, about $120.

You would put this in the roof or in a cupboard.

How to connect a dryer

Hi Sheliah,

I'm an electrician and would like to help you. Assuming you're in the U.S. and this is an electric dryer (not gas), you will need to find a 240 (a.k.a. 250) volt / 30 amp circuit to connect it to for it to work. This would be connected to a double pole 30 amp circuit breaker in the electrical panel. There is no simple residential "adapter" to change voltage, current or number of wires - besides the old 3 wire grounding plug adapter in you grandmother's junk drawer. (What is a 50/250 volt dryer? - did you mean a 30A/250V?)

Your dryer should have a 4 wire cord with a 4 prong plug on the end - and it will need to be plugged into a matching outlet. The old electrical code allowed you to change the cord to match the outlet, but now it requires that both the cord and the outlet be a 4 wire type. The old 3 wire cord type is no longer permitted to be used when the dryer is moved or replaced. Of course, 3 wire cords are available everywhere and it is unlikely that anyone will turn you in for changing the dryer's 4 wire cord back to a 3 wire cord type (but I just wanted to tell they way it is supposed to be done). What you do - is your business.

If you have a gas (or LP) dryer, you probably only need a 120 volt / 15 or 20 amp outlet - they look like the standard types - but I think you'd have simply plugged it in and walked away if that were the case.

I hope this helped!

Is there a 120/230v switch on this unit. this unit has the European plug in with rounded ends. would I need to purchase a 120v adapter.

IF the unit is a international model it will say the two or range of voltages on the serial number tag. If it is not then you can use a 220 to 120 voltage transformer but if using a 60 Hz transformer in a 50 Hz environment they have the tendency to over heat.
The international model have a switch arrangment on the back to select different primary transformer windings. If you have a 220V ac unit a small 120 to 220V transformer could be used with no danger.
It is not just a matter of the connector but also of the voltage provided to the unit so that it works correctly.

How can I adapt the connection from my asko washer that is supposed to plug into the dryer to the outlet in the wall?

I believe the washer works on 120 Volts. All you need to do is replace the plug with a standard 120 V plug. Home Depot has plenty of them.

Is a Hampton Bay HBD240A window A/C 120v or 240v?

I have never seen a 240-volt window A/C unit for the U.S. market. So, my guess is it's 120 volt.

The best way to verify this is to read the name-plate on the unit.

Another way is to look at the plug on the unit's cord. There are at least three types of plugs :: 120 volt, 15 amp; 120 volt 20 amp; and 220 volt. 120 volt 15-amp will fit a standard household wall outlet. The 120 volt 20 amp plug is similar to a 120 volt 15 amp, but will not plug inot a standard household outlet. The 220 volt plug is altoghether different.

How to connect a cassette deck directly to the AC power

First you need to find out what voltage etc that came along the wires. Try finding the service manual for the model. Then all you need do is get/build a power supply. There are various ones on the market (AC Adaptors) for phones etc. Just get one that matches the supply. You may have to fit a plug of somekind into the deck. The supply might have to be smoothed by a capacitor say 2200uf. If it does build a small circuit board and fit it inside the deck. The voltage of the capacitor will have to be greater than the supply voltage of the adapter (IE:12 volts = 25volts cap).

Can I use a Powerline product on a European 220 volt electrical system?

No. Currently we are only offering Powerline products for the North American market, with support for standard 120 Volt AC, 60 Hz electrical outlets. Simply plugging a 120 > 220 volt adapter will not work, as the transformer will block the broadband signal, not to mention that the increased voltage that is likely to leak through a standard adapter could destroy the product.
