Center Burner stays lit and will not stop trying to ignite unless it is unplugged. If I need to order parts please tell me what I would need to fix this problem.

Hello Donna ,
If by saying "stays lit" ya mean that the flame goes off when turning off the knob yet it continues to spark all the time ?? if yes that's whats happening the flame goes off but it keeps sparking whats wrong it that the switch that turns on the spark when the knob is turned is bad and that is what needs to be replaced. GE only makes that switch available in a complete assembly with all 5 switches and the wiring for it. It's not to bad to replace that actually, what ya would need to do to replace that switch harness asm. ya need to take off the main top which can be done by removing the burner grates and caps from the burners, then is the outer center of each burner will be 2 screws remove those screws from all burners then the all 5 knobs and the top will lift off, that switch harness has keyed plugs and will only fit in one way so its not to bad to replace it. The part number for that switch/wire harness asm. is WB18T10381 it could be purchased at your local appliance parts store or online at; searspartsdirect.com apdepot.com partselect.com apwagner.com repairclinic.com
Thank you for using Fixya.Com,if you should require further assistance please reply and i will be happy to help,

Back right burnor ignitor will not turn off, even when knob it turned to off of GC36 gas cooktop

Hi staneand,

I believe your ignition switch has come in to contact with either water or moisture.

Please read my below Tip on how to fix the problem:

GAS KITCHEN APPLIANCE CLICKING SOUND...

If it does not solve your problem, I'd suggest replacing the ignition switches.

Kind Regards

One of the burners ignition will not turn off - it continually is sparking - i have to turn off the elec supply to stop the ignition ? any ideas

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly. On the burner your having problems with the ignition control switch located in front of the gas control vale on the stem has failed. These are cheesy little switches that are thin ceramic with nothing but 2 strips of copper inside them. One piece is fixed and the other piece is movable by the ceramic switch cam. If the movable copper arm or fixed copper strip gets bent the ignition will not shut off. Also if the ceramic cam of the switch fractures it will cause the switch to stay actuated. The gas valve has to be disconnected and removed to change the switch on most units. The wires in the switch have to be unlocked by inserting a jewelers screwdriver into the holes in the switch body to release the wires. These switches are common to most every gas cook top models no matter the brand. Without your model number I can not provide you with the manufacturers replacement part number. Change the burner ignition switch on the front of the gas valve for the burner with the problem and it will work fine.
Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Gas ignitor keeps trying to ignite after stove is off.

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly. On your cook-top the gas igniters are cycled on and off by a ceramic and copper switch on the front of each of the gas valves. Some of them are in wired Series ...i.e any burner on will cycle all igniters on the cook top and some of them are in Parallel where individual burners are controlled by each gas burner control knob. Inside these tiny ceramic switches there is a flat thin strip of copper that as the gas valve is rotated a cam of the switch actuates pushes the copper strip against the fixed contact. Those little strips over time either break or get bent and stay against the fixed contact. Hence you have and igniter on when the burner control is off. The only fix is to find out which little ceramic switch on the front of the gas valve is stuck. You do it with an Ohm meter POWER off. They all should read open with the burner controls off. The one that reads continuity across the 2 wires is the bad switch.

Thanks for Choosing FixYa.

I have prolonged igniter activation even when a burner is lit. I have searched the possible causes for this and none mention a bad flame sensor. I assume the sensor is built into the igniter. Is that...

Your problem is a stuck igniter switch or a bad spark module.
Each surface valve has its own igniter switch. Turn off the gas. Remove the panel covering the valves to access the switches.
With the gas OFF,turn on all surface switches. Move the dial past the LITE setting. The switches should still be making the sparking sound.
Remove one wire at a time from each surface switch.
When the sparking stops, that last switch with the wire removed will be the bad switch. The one that needs replacing.
If you do not find a bad switch the main spark control module will have to be replaced.
Part # 71003385 Igniter switch.
Part # 71002783 Spark module.
Occasionally a igniter switch becomes dislodged from the correct position and can be re-seated. Look at the position of all switches before you do any test. Make sure they are all seated.

Ticking sound from GE cooktop igniter

Under each gas control is a switch that will turn on the spark module when rotated to the light position. One or more of these switches has failed. Some models these switches are individually replaceable, others the switch is an assembly of all four.

Igniters will not turn off

Your switch assembly on the valve shaft has come loose or has broken. Have a look.
