Changing remote command mode for sony rdr-hx525 without remote control

When I first bought this sony hd recorder about two years ago, I changed the remote command mode to dvd1 to stop interference with other sony equipment. Recently, the remote stopped working so I bought a new one. However, the factory setting for the remote and hd recorder is dvd3, so it does not work. The manual does not show how to change the remote command mode WITHOUT a remote control. Can someone please tell me how to reset the command mode to dvd3 in order to use the remote control? Thank you.

I have a Sony RDR - GX255 and the same thing happened to me. I am not able to change it back to DVD 3 mode and I tried this solution but it doesn't work. Please help. Thanks a lot.

Thank you very much for your help with this. I am sorry for the delay in replying. I have been working away from home for the last month and have only tried your suggestion last night. It worked first time and I have my recorder back! Thanks again!

Hold the "Enter" button along with the numeric button for the command mode you selected in Setup. This will reset the remote to work in the command mode you selected (also lets you get back into System Menu to try other command modes). If you pick a different command mode, you'll need to do this again to reset the remote to the selected mode. Found this info courtesy our friends on the Internet - no thanks to Sony's manual...

Use the procedure thats posted to GET INTO THE MENU!! I pressed enter and 1 and then was able to go into system menu and change the settings back.. I had to do it a time or two.. so there may be another step involved. i changed the settings then turned the power off and back on and it worked... you may have to hit return before you turn the power off/on.. it worked though! The original poster simply left out the part about what "Enter and 1" did.. it unlocks the remote and gets you to the menu..

enjoy!!!

Just want to thank these people for the kind time to respond to these questions. I had thought that I was to the point of trashing my recorder, since without the remote it is basically useless.

Thank you so much!!! You saved me over $100+

You haven't told us what is the model of the remote you are now using it so we can't know what are its stored set of controls and if the one for the new box are between them. But there is another possibility: a so called learning remote - a remote that can learn the commands from an original remote. So if your present remote is a learning one - almost surely is, since there are no universal remotes designed with codes for door opening or thermostat changing - then all the persons helping you will have to do is to program the new remote's commands in it the way they programmed the other unusual commands, so no need for a preprogrammed set and its 3-digit entry code.

  • Receivers: 222k and 722k
    1. Ensure the DISH Network remote control is programmed to the desired remote address to operate the DISH Receiver.
    2. Place both the DISH Network remote and the original equipment's remote control on a flat, stable surface.
    3. On the DISH Network remote, press and hold the mode button for your equipment for about three seconds until all of the mode buttons light up, and then release it. Your selected mode button will blink.
    4. Select the type of learning you wish to perform:
      • Hybrid Mode
        1. Press and release RECALL, then hold the RECORD button for about three seconds until the mode button is lit again. The button remains lit while learning.

This is a problem that many have. If you are recording on TV1, and the receiver is in dual mode, then you are only able to watch what you record. But you can set your recording to TV1, and then put the receiver into single mode, and switch from the recording to live TV.

You need to download below manual... it seems it is all similar, read below as well.

Your remote might be using the wrong "infrared code", so the recorder when in service mode cannot understand it. Sony offers a feature that allows their recorders to operate under three different remote control signals, so if you own more than one Sony the remotes will not interfere with each other. The standard remote code the recorder is set to when new is "3". If by some chance you changed that code yourself, or the store changed it, then your remote is not sending signals that "service mode" can recognize.

You will need to change the remote's control code to "3" before the recorder will recognize it while in service mode. To change the remote code, take the remote to another room away from the recorder. Hold down the enter button, then press the 3 button. Hold both buttons down for 7 seconds, then release. Try the remote on the recorder: it should now be recognized and able to operate the service menu. Upon exiting service mode, the recorder may revert back to whatever code was last set, and the "3" codes that worked in service mode may not work in normal recorder mode. If it does not, do the same as before: try changing the remote control from "3" to "2" or "1".

    Hi

Have questions about your upgrade? We've got the answers. What do I need to do to receive my upgrade? Nothing! Just make sure your DIRECTV HD DVR is continuously connected to your land-based phone line and you will receive the upgrade automatically. When will I receive my upgrade? The 6.3 software upgrade will roll out over a period of several weeks. Customers with more than one DIRECTV HD DVR may receive their upgrades at different times for each receiver. We appreciate your patience while we deliver these new and improved features to eligible DIRECTV HD DVR customers nationwide. Are all DIRECTV DVRs receiving this upgrade? No. DIRECTV DVR models SONY SAT-T60, PHILIPS DSR6000R and HUGHES GXCEBOT will not receive the 6.3 software upgrade. Other models received a similar upgrade, 6.2, in the past. I have a DIRECTV R10 DVR with 6.1 software. Will I receive this upgrade? No. The 6.1 software on the DIRECTV R10 DVR already includes the 6.2 features such as folders and faster menu scrolling. Will any of my DVR settings be changed as a result of the upgrade? Yes, some of your settings or preferences will be changed back to the factory default settings as a result of the upgrade. These include: "Favorite Channels," "Channels You Receive," "Spending Limits," "Clear Channel Banner Quickly" and "Dolby Digital" recording and output. To change Channel Banners, Channels You Receive and Favorite Channels preferences: 1. Select "Messages and Setup" 2. Select "Settings" 3. Select "Channels" To change Spending Limits: 1. Select "Messages and Setup" 2. Select "Settings" 3. Select "Parental Control" To change Dolby Digital Settings: 1. Select "Messages and Setup" 2. Select "Settings" 3. Select "Audio" 4. Select "Dolby Digital" and "Digital Output" Will I be charged for this upgrade? No. We're upgrading your DIRECTV HD DVR as part of your normal DIRECTV® DVR with TiVo® service at no additional cost. What happens if I don't have my phone line plugged into my DIRECTV DVR? You will not be able to receive the upgrade if your DIRECTV DVR is not connected to your phone line. To install the upgrade, your receiver must successfully make a call to our servers. How will I know when I have received my upgrade? You'll receive an on-screen message the first time you visit DIRECTV Central after your upgrade is complete. It will also appear in your Messages section. You can also check your System Information screen to find out which software version you currently have. Will the download delete any of my currently saved programs? No. All of your saved programs will still be there for your enjoyment after the installation. Once your upgrade is complete... How do I activate the Grouping (folders) option? 1. Go to your Now Playing List. 2. Press Enter on your remote control. 3. Change groups to ON. SHORTCUT HINT: While viewing your Now Playing List, press number 2 on your remote control and your Now Playing List will change from the GROUPS view to show each individual recording.
