    Hi John
Just need to know a couple of things.
Can you describe what you see in the screen up to the point where the desktop does not load?

For example. Apple logo, revolving gear and so on

Have you tried to boot to the factory disks???? If not try to boot from Disk 1 and press and hold the C button on power up and if you get to the screen that asks for language. If this boots up to that point it appears you have an OS issues and you can do an archieve install which will allow you to keep your old users and settings let me know if you get to this point.

If nothing happens when you press the power button then the computer is most likely out of power - plug a charger in and it should work. If it still doesn't you might want to get it checked at a service provider. If something happens when you press the power button but the computer doesn't turn on, then please provide more information, explaining exactly what happens so that I can help you.

Start by doing a system restore, then, if that doesn't work, run a repair with your recovery or operating system disc.

I have a apple G4 book and when I start it up it will not go past the apple sigh and the screen stays blue?? Help Please

Hello and thank you for contacting Fixya Support, I am glad to assist.

I recommend you boot your Mac into Safe Mode, to see if you can remove a possible folder(s) which may be affecting your Mac's start up function.

Try these steps:

-SAFE BOOT MODE-
• Reboot your Mac
• Upon restarting your Mac, press the Shift key.
• Hold the Shift key until you see a White Screen with Gray Apple icon and eventually a spinning gear.
• When you see the Spinning gear, release the Shift key.
• Allow the Mac to continue booting up. Also this may take a little while

(NOTE: this may take anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes to load to the Safe mode screen depending on the performance of your Mac, but if it exceeds this time, shutdown your Mac and try just once more. It may have just frozen up the first time around for you.)

• You are going to enter the Safe Mode (which looks like your main desktop environment - the only difference is certain start up items are disabled.)

• Once within the Desktop in Safe Mode
• From the Finder Menu, click Go> Go to Folder

• Type in this line: /System/Library/StartupItems
• This path, is going to take you to the System Library folder which has all of your Mac OS X Startupitems.
• Remove all of those folders to the Trash.

*Reboot your Mac normally and see if you can access your normal User desktop environment.

I hope this helps. If you have more questions, please feel free to reply back to this post.

The most likely cause is a bad hard drive or a corrupted file. Start up the computer in safe mode. (Hold down the shift key while starting) that will force the macbook to run extended tests on the startup drive. If it finds any errors it may be able to correct them. If that fails use the startup disk that came with your laptop and start from it (hold down the C key during start up) that will allow you to use disc utility to try repairing your hard drive.
If the macbook fails to boot to the DVD or into safe mode. Try reseating the RAM chips. Hope some of that helps.

To resolve for wrong selection of boot disk press option button while u started your system that will show you the booting option there you must to select the OS HDD

Hi John
Can be because of a couple of things. Normally it is a system error.

If you boot your mac up from your original OS installation disk you might be able to repair the fault with apples disk utility.

Failing that you'll have to re-install the OS.

This is a copy of a previous post of mine -
Fixya - Mac Won't Start

Here are a few things that might help you
Try to start your computerfrom the system CD, if this fails, you may try to start it from theDisk Warrior CD, if this won't work also, I would check the PRAM.
