its a 125 volt 5 amp clear glass fuse and it's good.

  • coolbreeze58 Apr 10, 2011

when looking at the back of the tv where the circuit boards are, when you push the on/off button on the front of the tv there is a red light in the middle of the circuit board that comes on when you push the button on the front of the tv on and goes off when you push the off button.

  • coolbreeze58 Apr 10, 2011

where are the pico fuses located?

  • coolbreeze58 Apr 10, 2011

on the circuit board it has" protection" printed with a white line around the word and pointing directly at the red light. the only # we have found is jk01501

Please tell me whats the make and model of the tv so that we can commence the diagnosis. Also let me know whats the status of the standby light, i.e, Steady/blinking etc., If its blinking the please tell me how many times it blinks in between each pause.

Sai.

IF the standby light is not on then my money would be on the power supply board. A surge must have kocked it over. The standby light does not come on only if the 5V standby voltage is missing. The first thing to do is to get a multimeter and test if the ceramic glass type main fuse on the power supply is open. It looks like this
    http://www.unionparts.net/images/product...
It can be found right next to where the power cord goes into the power supply board that is inside the tv. Please try it and let me know

Ok. Proceed to test the pico fuses, there should be around 3 of them. If they are OK too then we will tourbleshoot using the schematic

Ok can you get me the part number of the board on which the LED comes on along with the board marking of the LED(EX; D405) so that I can look up the service manual and tell you if its a self-test diagnostic, thats indicating the possible location of the problem?

Ok so its not a surge issue but an OVP issue. That makes sense. But I need to know what board it is for me to be able to help you find the source of the problem. So can you please get me a high-res picture it would be really helpful. You can upload the picture to
    http://www.imagehousing.com/
And get me the link to the image

That looks like the convergence board. Can you get me the numbers of the two ICs attached to the heatsinks(large metallic grilled thing)so that I can verify this?

    eagle338 Apr 10, 2011

Yes please have a look at those ICs and tell me if they read STK-xxx-xxx (covergence ICs).

STR means they are switching regulators which I suspect are the source of the problem. So we shall begin by testing the resistors in the circuit. Do you know how to read resistor color codes? If yes then please measure the value of the same and compare it with the value indicated by the color code. If not then please refer to this guide.

This seems to be a problem in the Power Supply I would think. Either that or a fault that is overloading the PSU.

I turned on my tv today and as it was turning on it turned off by itself quickly. The tv does not turn back on. Do you know why it wont turn back on?

You might have blown a bulb,...

Try to take the plug out of wherever you have it and plug it into another outlet.
