Question about Sony Alpha 350 Digital SLR Digital Camera with 18-70 Lens

1 Answer

My Sony 350 has been working great for 3 years. As of yesterday the following problem has developed: I switch the camera on, focus on the subject which shows up clearly on the LCD screen, and I subsequently release the shutter. After the short interval it takes to process the image the LCD screen shows up completely black. I have downloaded the "images" and they are black without any subject matter - just a black frame for each image taken. I have reformatted the SanDisk several times, took it into town to have a camera expert test it on another camera. No problem was detected with the disk, but just to be on the safe side I purchased a new disk only to find out after formatting that the problem persists. I have removed the fully charged battery pack and reinserted - no improvement. Any help or suggestion is much appreciated. I live in rural Saskatchewan and as far as I am aware there are no Sony techs close by! I am a professional artist and rely on my camera daily!

I am so sorry to tell you that this is a problem with the CCD image sensor of the camera. It is what obtains the picture data of the subject and transfers it to the image processor to be processed. When this component fails you will see the problem that you are experiencing right now. Unfortunately sony does not make these parts available to end users, so your only choice now is to ship it to Sony for repair. The auto focus on my Sony Cybershot DSC-W35 is working i guess because the most shots that i take come out blurred... Can anyone help me with a quick solution because i need my cam urgently!!

THE TROUBLE WITH AUTO FOCUS ... is that it doesn't work well under the following conditions:
  • When the subject is not in the centre of the picture (particularly when there are moving objects in the background)
  • In low light conditions
  • If there is a bright light behind the subject (e.g. a window)
  • When the subject is bright (e.g. a car with its head lamps on)
  • When the subject is of low contrast - walls, the sky
  • If the subject is made up of fine repetitive patterns
  • If the subject is behind vertical bars or a chain link fence
  • When another subject passes between the camera and the point of interest

How to get manual focus on Olympus Camedia C-750 ultra zoom digital camera

TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTITf correct focus cannot be obtained
When the subject to be focused is not on the AF target mark (not positioned
in the center of the composition), you can use the following steps to obtain the
correct focus on the subject. This operation is referred to as "focus lock".
Determine the position of the subject after focusing (Focus Lock)
1 Press the power switch.
• The camera turns on in the shooting
mode.
• The lens extends and the monitor turns
on.
• The orange lamp lights.
2 Turn the mode dial and select a
shooting mode.
"Shooting mode" (P.36)
3 Position the AF target mark on
the subject you want to focus on.
• When shooting a hard-to-focus
subject, point the camera at an object
about the same distance away as the
subject.
Press the shutter button halfway
until the green lamp lights.
• When the green lamp lights steadily,
the focus and the exposure are locked.
• When the green lamp blinks, the focus
and exposure are not locked. Release
your finger from the shutter button, reposition
your subject and press the
shutter button halfway again.
5 Keeping the shutter button
pressed halfway, recompose
your shot.
6 Press the shutter button fully.
Try the above, info from D-535, C-370 and X-450.
I can email you the complete manual if this works.
Regards
Phillip

Autofocus malfunction

This camera is a great unit living in Iraq is not good for these camera because sand gets inside of the lens unit causing it to bind up and stop auto focusing. Some times this can be cleared up by taking off the lens and gently tapping it glass down to try and free up the dirt or in your case sand. if the fails take the lens and blow it out with high pressure air from both sides the problem is the ultra sonic motor that controls the auto focus is clog with sand causing you issue the problem 99% is your issue. hope this helps.

P72 face focus blurry background

Hl, I'm not sure what shooting options the P72 has. But, even in Auto you should be able to do this (Auto usually picks a wide aperture). The key is to fill the frame (at least 50%) with your subject. So zoom in and focus on the face and then while 1/2 pressing, zoom back out a little. Then fire away. You should get an in-focus subject and slight blurring of the BG. You have to experiment with this. If you fill the frame too much, you might get such a small depth of field that the subject's nose is in-focus but the eyes aren't.

Focus

The camera uses a precise auto focus mechanism, but under the conditions and with the subjects described below the auto focus function may not work well. Subjects moving at high speed Very shiny subjects such as a mirror or car body Extremely low contrast subjects (such as subjects dressed in the same color as the background, etc.) When there are objects in front of or behind the subject (such as an animal in a cage or a person in front of a tree) Subjects with little reflection, such as hair or fur Subjects with no solidity, such as smoke or flames Subjects viewed through glass In addition, the focus is set on the center of the frame, so if the subject is not at the center (when shooting two people standing side by side, for example), the focus is adjusted on the background and the desired subject (the two people) may be out of focus. In such cases, do the following: Point the camera so that one of the persons is at the center of the viewfinder. Half-press the shutter button. (The focus is locked on the person.) Holding the shutter button in the half-pressed position, reposition the camera to achieve the desired composition. Take the photo. If the focus cannot be adjusted, it is locked to infinity (1.5 meters when using the flash).
