Yes. First disconnect unit from the mains power.
Then examine the socket to determine if any special mount type is installed. Most generic sockets can be used - preferably with an energy saver lamp (and not an incandescent type).

If you really want an original replacement part, then consult Genie at :

How to open genie 1/2 hp garage opener for light bulb

Set a step ladder under the power head of the garage door opener so you can reach the power cord and the lens cover safely.
Climb the ladder and pull the power cord from the outlet in the ceiling. Press the two lens tabs in to disengage the lens from the power head. The lens tabs are below the opener rail on the upper corners of the lens. Pull the lens cover straight off of the power head.
Unscrew the light bulb from the light socket. Use a new 60 watt bulb to replace the defective bulb. Do not use a short neck bulb. Screw the new bulb into the light socket just as you would a regular lamp socket.
Slide the lens cover back over the front of the power head. Push the lens cover in until the locking tabs engage the top corners of the lens cover.
Plug the Genie garage door opener power cord back into the ceiling electrical outlet.

Own late model 12hp Genie screw drive garage door opener and want to know where to locate the Learn Code Button.

It will be on the outer surface of the motor head, or under the light cover. It will be the only one you can press. Some older units have dip switches which look like a row of toggle switches. If so there will be no learn button. Thanks BB

Garage door light will not turn on automatically when door is opened. Tried 't several new lights but that didn't work. Any ideas on troubleshooting?

This is either a light socket problem or a logic board issue. Unplug the unit and open the light cover. In the bottom of the socket there is a copper lead. Pull this up with needle nose plyers as the bulbs may not be making contact with the lead. Then try it out. If it does nothing either your socket is bad or the logic board is bad. You can test the socket with a circuit tester. If it is bad replace it, if it is good replace the logic board. You can get replacement parts at or Thanks BB

This has happened to me a couple of times. You will need to return the product as defective and get a new one. This is what genie has told me to do. The problem is that the screw pattern is off just a little and the trolley locks up in a bind as it comes across the piece. Thanks BB

Cant get the 2 light bulb on my genie excelerator lights up during opening and closing the garage door. what can be the problem???Please help me..

If both will not light then you will need to replace the logic board because it is very unlikely both of them have failed at the same time. If it is one, make sure the lead at the bottom of the socket is pulled far enough up to make contact with the bulb, you can replace the socket itself as well. Parts can be ordered at

Programming my keyless entry

Yes, you purchased the wrong wireless. You must get a Genie keyless and there are two types of Genie keyless (GWKP & GWK-BL) depending on which Genie operator you have. You might think about a wired keyless entry (Domino GD-1). Then if you change your operator you don't have to change your keyless.
