Expandability I have a Talkabout T5410. It has two handheld units and I need 1 or 2 others. Are there any models I can buy that will be compatible (able to communicate) with the set I already have?

Any of the FRS radios on the market should be able to communicate with your TalkAbouts. Most have the typical 14 or so FRS frequencies installed. Your T5410 has an interference eliminator, when set to anything other than zero, it will block out other users on your frequency. If you use this option, you will need to chose radios with this feature. Some of the cheaper off-brands do not offer it.

Motorola talkabout MR350 headset only sends audio and can not recieve

Likely not compatible. One thing to try is to make certain the transmitting unit is turned OFF when you initially plug in the headset. Sometimes if a headset is plugged into a radio when it is already ON, the headset will appear to be in VOX (voice activated) mode and will not allow the user to receive. Also, if this headset has an inline PTT, it may not be compatible with the radio and you would need to use the PTT on the radio.

If this doesn't work, you would need to use the TalkAbout headset designed for the MR350.

Best regards.

Where can I buy repair parts for my Motorola T5720 Talkabout radio?

So sorry, parts have never been available for the TalkAbout line of radios (other than TalkAbout Distance & DPS). If you are looking to repair an existing T5720 unit, your best option would be to locate a like-model for parts. eBay can be a good source.

As for replacement batteries and accessories you can use the Motorola TalkAbout Accessory Store.

Best regards.

I have one t5410 handset that will not recieve. is it worth fixing? is there something i could do to fix it?

Check your frequency, code, and Qt filter (if any) to see that they match identically. Having a different code or Qt filter setting can cause a radio to not receive. Also, check the mic area of the other radio to be certain there is no debris in the mic hole.

Past checking these settings and replacing the battery, there is nothing which can be done to repair the T5410 style radio. (sorry).

How to get a Talkabout T5720 to communicate with a

The frequency range and operatngmode of the two radios are compatible. To get the Radius operating on a GMRS channel you'll need a Motorola programming cable and software, OR a trip to a Motorola dealer for frequency programming. Considering the cost involved, the 2-watt output of the Radius, and the 1-watt output of the Talkabout, you would be better off performance and cost wise buying a pair of 5-watt GMRS portables.

T5410 I press MON key and it doent make sounds

It sounds as though you have a broken speaker. Do you have a head phone/earphone jack on the unit. That would be a good test.
If it does have an earphone jack, they have been known to get trash in the jack, that in turn breaks the circuit to the speaker.

Wanting to know how far this radio will communicate

In reality, handheld radios will talk line-of-sight up to 2 miles. When talking in and around buildings, the range can be reduced to as low as 1/4 to 1/2 mile. For optimal range, be certain to hold your radio with the antenna pointing straight up (perpendicular) to the ground. Height and placement of antenna determines range.

All that being said, many radio manufactures make claims of 5, 10, 18, 25 miles. These claims would be true if one radio can see another, such as talking from a mountain top to a valley. In the real world, we deal with curvature of the earth, hills, buildings, etc.

TalkAbout radios and the other FRS radios operate on 1/2 watt FRS, and 1-2 watt GMRS frequencies. Business radios on the other hand operate on up to 4 to 5 watts of power. The power does not always equate into extra range, it does however, provide much greater clarity in the fringe areas.

Hope this answers your question.

The talkabout t5500 and the t5725

Hello bella-9,

The T5500 is a 2 channel radio and the T5725 is a 14 channel radio. However, the radios should be compatible with each other on FRS channels 1-14 as long as both radios are using the same Quiet Talk code. If the Quiet Talk settings are different the radios will not be able to communicate with one another.

Assuming all settings are the same (as you say) and the units are within range of each other (typically less then a mile over clear, level terrain) they should work just fine.

Best Regards,
Ken
