Question about HP Puffer2UL8E (51883631) Motherboard

1 Answer

I have a HP m7388a PC and the mb is faulty (video card doesnt work) (i tried it with a similar card and still didnt work) I dont want to buy a different mb as it will probably result in me having to reinstall windows xp which inturn will cause me to lose all my software installed over the past 5 years. The mb is an asus PTGD-LA. I came across another on ebay except it is described as PUFFER-UK8E Asus PTGD-LA. Do you know if it is the same mb. OR can you suggest another board that will be compatible with the one i have so that win xp will work without reinstall. Regards Henry O

You should not think about replacing the motherboard until you have exhaused all of the troubleshooting on your computer

Click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll to display adapters + to expand you might see a yellow question mark ? or exclamation mark ! or a red x right click select reinstall drivers also

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect your hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electic extensions or just replace them they are probably faulty a computer needs its connections to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error hope this helps

Make sure you set the primary graphics in the bios to pic-e and you will likely have to upgrade your power supply as this card requires at least a 400 watt you pc came with a 285 watt not near enough power for this video card and could be your problem

Hello,

You may have a faulty video card. Test this card with a know working pc. If your video is embedded on your main board, try using a PCi video card.

Good Luck.

Fans run at full speed under normal task.

THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE CPU AND MB AND PSU IS NOT COOLING OFF ENOUGH AND CAUSING THE FAN TO RUN ON HIGH ALL THE TIME, THE PSU MAY NOT HAVE ENOUGH WATTS POWER TO RUN THE CONFIGURATION TO KEEP THE SYSTEM AND HARDWARE TO COOL.

I READ IT IN ONE OF MY PC MAGAZINE, ANOTHER PERSON UPRADED SYSTEM, ADDED SOME OTHER STUFF BUT THE MB AND POWER SUPPLY UNIT DIDNT HAVE ENOUGH WATTS TO SUPPORT BASIC REQUIREMENTS OPERATING THE SYSTEM BASIC NEEDS.
FIND SOFTWARE THAT KEEPS EYE ON HEAT ISSUES, MB, VIDEO CARD, RAM, PS, CPU, CPU COOLERS, NIC CARDS, SOUND CARDS,
ETC.
EACH PART REQUIRES SO MUCH POWER
AND HERE HOW IT BRAKE DOWN FOR EACH COMPONET

MB 20-35+ WATTS
CD ROM 20-25 WATTS
DVD 30-45 WATTS
DISK DRIVE 5 WATTS
HD 5-15 WATTS
STANDARD VIDEO VARD 5-15 WATTS
MEMORY 5 WATTS PER MB

NEW SYSTEMS WITH THE FOLLOWING STUFF IN IT FLOPPY DRIVE,CD-ROM, MB, 16MB RAM, REQUIRES A MIN. 150 WATTS OF POWER.

BUT I KNOW YOU MAY HAVE TOP OF THE LINE VIDEO CARD WITH GGR4 WITH 512MB
MEMORY, 2-8 GIG OF RAM, 23 INCH LCD MONITOR, 2 500GB HD, BLUETOOTH AND WIRELESS NETORK, AND WIFI CAPABILITIES,
NEW DUAL CORE CPU TOP LINE MOTHERBOARD, COOLED VIDEO CARD,RAM COOLER ALSO AND THIS SYSTEM POWER WATTAGE REQUIREMENTS MAYBE SOME WHERE AROUND 400-600 WATT, AND MOST OF THAT IS FOR THE SYSTEM RAM AND THE VIDEO RAM YOU ARE RUNNING
REMEMBER 5 WATTS PER 1 MEGABYTE OF
RAM
IT WILL ADD UP FAST BOY'S AND GAL'S

ROD

PS I HOPE I DIDNT BORE ANYONE,
IT MAY SAVE YOUR SYSTEM FROM BURNING UP.

One long beep tow short beep

One long beep and two short beeps mean faulty video adapter.

If you are using a card, like a PCI or AGP video adapter then remove and put back the card in slot.

If you have a motherboard, then the video chipset on motherboard had gone, buy an agp video adapter and insert it in the slot inside your computer to fix the problem.

below an example of PCI and AGP video card:

MSI G4MX4000-T64 64 MB Graphics Card

HP Intel DVI AGP digital display card

ATI Rage 128 Pro 32 MB PCI Graphics Card

I assume you have switched the monitor cable in the back to your video card before booting up. Also you must disable the onboard video and driver too by Start----->Control Panel----->System----->Hardware----->Device Manager and make sure the driver for the onboard video is disabled. You have to also change the BIOS settings by rebooting and pressing F4, F1, F2 or F6 (varies on computers) Once in BIOS, you have to use the arrow keys, Esc and Enter to navigate. Goto the Video Display options and change the onboard video to your new card 256 MB. Collow on screen promts to save it and reboot again. Should work now.
