Where is the heat exchange in a rheem pool heater located ?

The PVC plumbing is hooked into the front header, the front header is attached to the heat exchanger. The heat exchanger looks like copper finned tubes with a steel plate on each end. You need to disassemble heater working from top down to get to the exchanger. A skilled tech can replace an exchanger in under one hour service call.

Air To Water Heat Pipe Heat Exchanger

General Information
Air to water heat pipe heat exchanger is mainly to heat water using the hot air from heat recovery, it can be used for domestic water, water for boilers or production process. The exchanger is constructed using a partition in the middle to separate the exchanger, both sides are independently sealed. A single heat pipe can be replaced. While working the hot air flows from one side to the other side, the heat pipe absorbs heat. Meanwhile, cold water flows from the reverse side, the heat pipe releases heat, thus heating the cold water from the reverse side. The outlet temperature is not lower than dew temperature.
Field of Application
-feed drying
-cereals and oil processing
-chemical industry
Specification

Advantage:
-high heat recovery efficiency
-seldom temperature difference, fast heat starting, good isothermal
-the speciality of the heat pipe results in a high wall temperature, exhaust gas temperature can be reduced without reaching the acid dew point, avoid the corrosion of the equipment.

My heater sounds like it is backfiring. The sound is like an explosion which emits tremendous sound pressure. Enough to rattle windows. It has been happening for a week now. Didn't realize it was...

There is debri on top of the heat exchanger or the finned tubes on the heat exchanger itself are calcifying or corroding. Remove all leaves, rusty metal, and debri off the top of the heat exchanger and finned tubes, Air has to be able to flow through these tubes freely, any corrision has to be wire brushed off the tubes. then vacuum top of exchanger. reinstall heater top.

Water flows out the condensation tube even when the heater is not runiing causing the pool to leak down. The heater is 4 years old. Thank you.

It sounds like there is a leak in your system. The condensation tube is to drain off the water because one of the byproduct of combustion is water and it condenses on the heat exchanger. Since it is only 4 years old it might be under warrantee for this issue. The problem might be simple but could be very expensive if the heat exchanger has a leak.

It is leaking out of the bottom - heat exchanger?

need new heat exchange either chemical damage or overheating due to incorrect gas pressure then tubes start bending and pulling away from walls not covered by warranty

Water is leaking out of the far right burner tube, while pool pump is running.

sounds like you either have a pinhole in your heat exchanger or possibly a bad tube washer (seal). A pinhole can result from poor water chemistry or chemical exposure such as pH chronically low or a chemical feeder (chlorinator or salt cell) installed near the heater without a chemical resistant check valve. You will have to dismantle the heater far enough to access the heat exchanger and inspect it while the pump is running. If it's a pinhole in the exchanger, you will need a new exchanger. If its a seal, you will just need a new set of seals (washers) for the exchanger manifold.

Broken heat exchanger

Yes. DO NOT USE IT UNTIL IT IS FIXED! Carbon monoxide can kill you! Most manufactures will warrant their heat exchangers on 80% furnaces for twenty years. Some models only ten years.
Tubular heat exchangers are known to be very durable. If this went bad this fast the most common cause would be a faulty installation. The installer should have adjusted the gas pressure to assure proper firing of the burners. The air flow should have been adjusted according to that models rated temperature rise. And the flue pipe needed to have the proper rise, length, diameter and height to properly discharge the moist flue gases.
Get a new heating guy. Even though you have a heat exchanger warranty that will cover only parts, not labor. Unless your installer sold you a ten year parts and labor warranty. A contractor will probably charge you a flat fee of $300 -$400. or an hourly rate with trip charge and 1 1/2 - 4 hours labor. A good tech should be in and out of your home in 1 1/2 - 2 hours.
Good luck
