Hi!
Keys are designed to be removable from the front, you just have to be careful.
Get a flatheaded screwdriver and stick it under the shift key then gently (!) start pulling up. When you feel that it clicked out the lift it up gently and remove the small wire supporting it (note not all keyboards have it).
When you're done cleaning it just stick it back.
Good luck!

Shift key is not working

You might consider using, at least tempory, a external usb keyboard with a touchpad, you can get get them at Wal-Mart for around $20.00
Otherwise consider taking it to a computer shop and have them test the keyboard and if need be order you a new one. If this computer is still under warranty then I would would talk to the support team that you purchase it from. Good Luck.

Reattaching the right shift key

Generally you attach the cap on one side. Lift it up and push down to snap in the other side. If parts got broken, you can buy the key from ebay?

What are sticky keys My shift will not work and I keep getting a message about sticky keys

Hi

Please try to press both the shift keys at the same time
this may disable the sticky keys and return the keyboard to normal

this quite often happens when you hold the shift key down for longer than 8 seconds or more

many thanks

The A key keeps sticking on my Acer Aspire 5551- help!

If you mean the key is physically sticking, as in pressing down but not releasing,it is possible that the plastic spring or rubber stop under the key has broken.

You can remove the key cover and check if the plastic spring that the key attaches to is moveable and that the small rubber stop underneath is present. If the spring is broken, a replacement key can be got from ebay for a small cost. Check also that there is no dirt or sticky patches under the key, these should be removed using meths or a similar solvent.

If the key is not physically damaged, or there is no dirt etc underneath, there may be a problem with one of the traces on the ribbon cable to the motherboard, this will necessitate a new keyboard

Im not sure what happened but a sticky key caption appeared on my screen and i just deleted but since then when i hit shift key to get symbols and the AT sign it wont work and its frustrating when trying...

You've turned on Windows' "sticky keys", one of the accessibility options. Pressing the Shift key 5 times in a row activates it. Sticky keys lets you type key combinations (Shift-x, Ctrl-Shift-x, Alt-x, etc.) one key at a time. It's for people who have trouble holding several keys down at once. Press the Shift key again 5 times to bring the sticky keys dialog box back and turn off the function. You can also disable it permanently in the Control Panel's accessibility settings program.

Shift key not working

You have 2 Shift keys on the keyboard. If the other shift key is working then the shift key that is not working is defective. You should consider replacing the keyboard on your laptop. There is no setting on Windows that can disable the shift key.

**Note : If both Shift keys are not working, Try to check if sticky keys feature on windows is on. Sticky keys should be disabled. To disable sticky keys, Click on start and Go into control panel > Accessibility Options, and under keyboard there is sticky keys. Remove the tick and click apply and OK.

**If "Use Sticky Keys" is unchecked, that means sticky keys is disabled.
