You can use the system restore feature but I would recommend download some spyware programs and run them. The first program that you should use is super anti spyware. The website is www.superantispyware.com

I have used that program numerous times on my customers compeuter and it makes it very easy. The other program is Spybot Search and destroy. Run both of those programs and you should h ave a pretty clean system

Use the System Restore feature in WIndows - you should see a restore point for the time when you installed the software.

How to get rid of ads on my screen when I go to my in box in Yayoo mail

You can either temporarily hide the ads that keep popping up on your Yahoo Mail page or block them permanently. To know how, refer to the steps below.

To temporarily hide ads (for free email accounts):
1)Sign in to your Yahoo Mail account
2)When, while viewing your list of emails or a particular email, an ad pops up, you can see a right-facing arrow between your email and the advertisement. Click on this arrow.
3)The ad will get hidden temporarily.
(Important: This blocks the ads temporarily only and as soon as you perform the actions like refreshing the Yahoo Mail page, marking a particular email as spam, replying to an email, or just clicking on any of the sections in the navigation-menu located on the left of the page, a new ad may pop up again).

To permanently remove graphical and text ads:
Yahoo Mail has recently come up with "Yahoo Ad Free Mail" service to enable you to get rid of graphical and text ads on a permanent basis when viewing your Yahoo Mail account from a computer. You need to sign up for Yahoo Ad Free Mail account before starting using this service.
(Note: Before signing up for Yahoo Ad Free Mail account, please check if the service is available in your region. Also, even after subscribing to the service, the subscribers may still get the text ads that come up on Yahoo Mail on a mobile web browser and the text ads that come up in the "Basic Mail" interface of Yahoo Mail on a computer. To know what Basic Mail is, refer to the following Yahoo webpage: https://help.yahoo.com/kb/mail-for-desktop/basic-mail-sln5171.html)

Antivirus 2009

I see these every day, note: also fixes AV 2008 and many others.

This Malware is known as "Rogue anti-virus" software.

This program will remove it: http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?id=5360&file=10&evp=2e0d43eb67e1e71c0b31e62c003599c0
the website that has it also has a really good antispyware program called malwarebytes

www.malwarebytes.org

once you run a full scan in this program run this program:
http://www.superantispyware.com/downloadfile.html?productid=SUPERANTISPYWAREFREE
it's another free antispyware. these are both professional grade removal software for free. I remove this stuff about 3 times a day. It seems this outbreak is the largest I've ever seen.

If you want a good protection suite that will keep it out buy a copy of NOD32 (www.nod32-av.com) another you may not have heard of, it will block this and many others before it even gets on your computer.

Gateway laptop problem has been detected and Windows keep shuting down to prevent damage to computer. What shall I do? Norton has currently been added.

start your computer in safe mode.

Click start, run, type 'msconfig' in the box without the commas and click 'OK'

a system configuration utility window pops open. Click on the tab at the top in the middle that says 'boot.ini' and put a mark by safeboot. Drop down and click apply, move left and click close. Restart the computer, you will come up in safemode. If you dont get the same problem, is probably norton, norton wont start in safemode unless its the corporate edition.

to get back to regular mode, click start again, click on run, type msconfig and click ok. The system configuration utility window pops back open. Click the boot.ini tab and unmark safeboot. Drop down and click apply, move left and click close. Restart the computer. It will come back up in regular mode.

a work around if it is norton would be to remove norton and try AVG antivirus, is free

it problem persists, then it wasnt norton. Norton needs quite a bit of memory to run. If you dont have at least 512 mb in your system (more if your video card uses part of it), then you going to have problems.

Spyware attacked my computer and I don't know how to get it off! What do I do?

1) Remove Unwanted / Suspicious Program.
The First thing that you should do is Remove / Uninstall, Unwanted or Suspicious Programs from your System. To do this Follow the Instructions:
  • Click Start
  • Click Control Panel
  • Double Click on Add or Remove Program.
  • Select the Unwanted / Suspicious Program and Click on Remove.
2) Clearing the Startup.
The first thing that you should do is to stop unwanted programs from running in the background. There is a Tool in Windows that allows us to do that and it is called the "System Configuration Utility" (MSCONFIG).
Now most of the time with Infected Computers, the Normal Mode is Really Difficult to work with and so the best place to start would be to restart the Computer in the Safe Mode.
To Start your Computer in Safe Mode, do the Following:
  • Turn your Computer Off.
  • Now As Soon as you Turn the Computer On, Keep tapping the F8 Key (Present in Top Row) on your Keyboard
  • It will give you a screen that says "Windows Advanced Options"
  • Here You will Have Options to Select Either "Safe Mode" or "Safe Mode with Networking".
Once in the Safe Mode,
  • Click Start and Click Run.
  • Type "MSCONFIG" (Without the Quotes) and Click OK
  • Now Click on the Tab called "Startup". (Here you see all the Programs that Starts when your system Starts)
  • Now Click On "Disable All".
  • Now Remember, when you click on "Disable All", you are also Disabling your Antivirus, So be sure to put a check mark next to everything related to your Antivirus.
  • Then Click on Apply.
    • Once you Click on Disable All and all the Check Marks are gone (except for your Antivirus), Then click on either OK or Close.
    • It will Ask you to Restart your Computer, So please go ahead and do so.
This is a Very Powerful tool and needs to be used Very Carefully. If not used Properly, it can cause Software and Registry Problems in your System.
    • Go to the Website, http://www.tdwebsite.com
    • In the Left Pane, Click on the Link Called "Downloads"
    • Now Click on "Free Anti - Spyware Softwares"
    • In there Click on "HiJack This".
    • UnZip the Main File in a Separate Folder named HJT on the Desktop.
    • Then Open the HJT and Double Click on Hijackthis.exe
    a) Run Hijack This and Select the First Option
    b) The Log file is Automatically Created, just Copy the Entire content of this Log.
    c) Go to http://www.hijackthis.de and paste the Log in the Blank Box and Click Analyze
    d) If you Scroll down the Same window, it will give you the List of HJT Log and will tell you if it is Safe or Nasty.
    e) Put Check Marks on the Nasty Entries and then Click on Fix Checked, It will ask you a Question, just click on Yes

    Spyware Prevention.
Preventing Spywares from Entering your System is not that Difficult. You should Never Trust a Pop Up that Says your System is Infected or Anything Like that if it is a Message from your Internet Browser. Following are some of the Thumb Rules that can prevent Spywares from Entering your System:
    • Stop Visiting Websites that offer Cracked Softwares or Other Illegal Activity.
    • Do Not Visit Porn Related Websites.
    • Do not Visit Websites that Generate Unwanted Pop Ups.
    • DO NOT Click on Any Pop Ups that are Generated by your Internet Browser. (ALWAYS Use the RED X on the Top Right To Close the Pop Up)
    • Avoid using File Sharing Softwares. If you are using them, use it very carefully and Read the "License Agreement" Before Installing those Softwares, as they may mention about other Softwares that are being installed.
    • Install a Good Antivirus and Keep it Updated Regularly.
    • If your Antivirus does not come with a Firewall then install a Firewall like Zone Alarm (Can be Downloaded from http://www.tdwebsite.com or http://www.zonelabs.com).
    • Keep your Windows OS Regularly Updated and if Possible, be sure that Service Pack 2 is installed as it also has a good Pop Up Blocker.
    • Install a Good Anti Spyware like Ad Aware or Spy Sweeper or Windows Defender and Keep it Updated.
    • Run a Virus Scan using Antivirus at least Once a Week.
    • Run a Spyware Scan using Anti Spywares at least Once in every 3 or 4 days (If Possible Every Night Before Turning Computer Off).
