Convergence STK ic parts?

I have a Toshiba 57H81 and have figured out that it is having red convergence issues that I believe i can fix myself (got the TV for free and I like to tinker) however I cannot find which STK part numbers i need to replace in order to fix it. Am I right in saying that there is only two that need to be replace if the red is the only color that is ghosting? I appreciate any help.

need to now what convergence IC's number to replace my toshiba 55h70 big screen with and where to find it in the tv

I finaly got ahold of the parts and manual for this tv. The service manual 57H81 goes along with the one for 50H81. I cant seem to find the board which carries the two STK parts that need replacing within the manual. Maybe i didnt look hard enough. Can anyone let me know which board this will be located on? or perhaps which page to look at for the board that carries them? appreciate any help.

finaly got around to getting a saudering iron and some de-sauder cable. These stk's have an extremely tight column of wires on the end that sauder to the board. I am a little worried as to my skill with a saudering iron to get this intricate pice onto the board without arking cuircuts that are supposed to not touch. Could you offer any tips or tricks?

Ok so . . . I finally got the new parts in and fired it up, and it didnt make a bit of difference. So to clarify, I replaced the two stk parts that are attached to the heatsink sitting on the closest right hand board to you if you were sitting behing the tv with the back pulled off. i had to un-solder the heatsink to get them off of it since it was in such a tight area.

If i did indeed replace the right parts, what else could it be? the red ghosting is being bowed downward from the top and upward from the bottom. They still let you do auto alignment from left to right though (cant move the crosshairs up or down only). It also, will not let me hit "enter" in order to select "blue" and align its crosshairs automatically in any mode. So im stuck with just being able to align red left and right, though red is the only one thats messed up really bad right now.

Appreciate any help, and thank you for the help thus far Slinteriors.

  • rickkcid Sep 13, 2008

checked them all and they are all hitting 1.8/1.9 ohms and the ICs look great. Also as an update i was able to get the blue crosshairs to manually align, all thats wrong is the red (up & down), the controller has a bad button.

Just wanted to repost that I checked all of the resistors Slinteriors asked me to and they all checked out ok. Still wondering what I could check next? Would really love to get this thing fixed.

  • rickkcid Nov 06, 2008

Still no answers, could someone please help me out, have had this thing sitting here for a few months now. Would really appreciate anymore help.

  • mrw62 Nov 29, 2008

The red crosshair is the only one that is off. I can move it up and down but not sideways and its the worst on the right side, slightly in middle and pretty bad on the left. Has anyone had this fixed by a service technician and how much was it? Doesnt sound like its an easy fix.

  • rickkcid Jan 12, 2009

So im an idiot, i tripple checked the resistors that Slinterior's told me to and one is reading bad. I am going to see if radioshack carries anything below 10ohm and replace it, ill write back with an update, oh and it was number R7711.

  • rickkcid Jan 13, 2009

Gotcha, getting the desired part tomorrow, will update. thanks.

  • rickkcid Aug 24, 2009

Youd dont happen to know where I could get a few do you. Been checking everywhere and coming up empty handed. Thanks for all your help.

  • rickkcid Oct 17, 2009

So i finally got around to it and the replaced ohms resistors did it! The darn thing works beautifully, I also had to clean the mirror and lenses due to an awful ambient light, no doubt from sitting almost a year in the corner of the room.

One thing has come up though, I do notice that I have to manually adjust the convergences on it through the televisions menu almost every day. It doesnt travel much, maybe a hair or two, and the blue crosshairs on the left side of the screen are a little more blurry than the rest.

Is this normal or is there something else i can mess with?

I replaced both stk units in my 50H60 with ebay items but I'm still having issues. One is label V and the other H, I assume Vertical and Horizontal? If this is the case, I replace the one and it fixed nothing so I replaced the other and it seems a tiny bit better.

If you are looking at text on the screen and the letters seem to repeat left to right; Blue Green Red overlapping slightly, would this be a Vertical IC problem or Horizontal? I can justify how it could be either but I'm not sure.

Also the entire screen seems to be shifted to the right about an inch, if that helps at all.

you will see a large aluminum heat sink with fins on it. They are attached to that

the trick is to get the finest tip soldering iron that radio shack has then start at one end and place the tip to the pin and briefly touch the solder to the other side of the pin and the heat will draw the solder to the pin, use just enough solder to seal the pin then move to the next pin in line. I usually start on the left pin and work to the right.

double check the convergence resistors and see if any are burned or discolored in the center. Also double check the IC pins to insure that none are bridged with solder.the resistors are the 1.8 ohm 1watt resistors there numbers are R7711, R7716, R7721, R7726, R7731 and R7736

when you refer to the controller having a bad button, are you refering to the remote? as you will need the remote to do a convergence adjustment. Also often what happens is a trace pad can lift when removing the old ICs and as a result can develop a crack in the traces which will prevent a certain color such as red from having either no vertcal movement or horizontal. Yours would indicate the red vertical is causing the problem. Check the schematics and it will show you the plus and minus supplies for the red vertical then check the two corresponding pins on that paticular IC. Your problem will be there within that area.

Be sure to use a 1.8 ohm 1watt resistor as anything other than that rating can fry you new Ics as well as other components.

Thats a convergence issue. you will need to replace the two Convergence IC and quite possibly a few of the 6.8 ohm resistors. You can get the phillipd DPTV305-DPTV345 convergence repair kit from the kit works for your model also and it includes the ICs and resistors plus the CD with detailed repair instructions.
