Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Hi, I have a Dell Inspiron 10. My wireless function was disabled. I checked my wireless Dell Wireless 1397 WLAN mini-card and it appears to be OK; using Fn + F2 didn't help. Under Network Connections, it states that both my wireless network and local area connections are 'firewalled'. When I try to review available wireless connections , I get a message that states "Windows cannot configure this wireless connection. If you have enable another program to manage this wireless connection, use that software". If I try to repair, I get a message that states to "contact the person who manages your network". That person is my husband and he's stumped. HELP!!?!? I don't know what to do next. Thanks.

Thanks for your reply.. I do not have the Dell Wireless Manager, only the Select Wireless Switch or the Dell Wireless LAN. Will one of those work?

It works now! :-) Thank you so much!

Hi,

Welcome to Fixya. If you want to connect wirelessly you need to connect using the Wireless Manager of your computer or Remove it. If im not mistaken your using Windows XP

How to connect using Wireless Manager:

- Click on Start
- Click on All Programs
- Click on Wireless Manager
- If check the Networks that are available and make sure you will connect to your SSID (Network Name) or the Name of your network. It may ask you for a Network Key or Password.
- If you dont know the password you need to access the router page.

It is easier if you will use the windows wireless setup. To do that just remove the wireless manager.

How to remove the Wireless Manager:

-Click on Start
- Control Panel
- Select Add and Remove Programs
- Uninstall the Dell Wireless Manager
- Restart the Computer
- after restarting, Click on Start then Connect to
- Connect to your Network Name and if the network is secured you will be ask for the password of the network or Security Key

If you will ask me it is better to remove the wireless manager.

If you have questions please let me know. Thanks for using Fixya.

My wireless on my Dell Inspiron Mini 10 has never

Your Dell may not have the wireless card driver installed.
Install the latest wireless driver.
You can download the drivers from Dell WEB site, the support download page. Make sure you select your model desktop or laptop, better still, type in the Service Tag number, it is printed on the label on the bottom of the laptop and on the back or sides of a desktop. (If the Service Tag label is missing then go into the BIOS setting and on one of the BIOS pages, the Service Tag number will be displayed). This will open the page where the specific drivers for your model computer are located. Also make sure you select the Windows XP or Vista version of the drivers for your Windows operating system. Click on this link to download the drivers: -
