My 11.5hp B&S Riding mower sat for a long time with a dead battery. When I replaced the battery I found that the darn thing wouldn't start now it will start, but only runs a few seconds and dies.

you have done something wrong with the needle and seat when you cleaned the carby out
That will allow fuel to continually flow to fill the sump
remove and overhaul the carby correctly

Bike starts runs for a second then shuts off

I would say it's fuel supply problem. Most bike carbs have a screw in the bottom of the floatbowl to drain it. Loosen it and see if fuel runs out . If not remove the fuel hose from petcock and see if fuel runs out when you try to start the bike if it's vacuum operated petcock otherwise you have to select reserve by moving pointer to straight up. If the bike has been sitting for several months you need to drain the fuel tank, remove the petcock and clean the screens on it, remove and clean the carburetor. If the petcock has a vacuum hose connected to the back of it check it for cracks. You can always isolate a fuel problem by spraying a little fuel into the carburetor intake to see if it will run. I remove the sparkplug and prime the motor thru the sparkplug hole. If it tries to run you know you have a fuel supply problem.

12.5 v twin , new fuel pump and filter. Cleaned carburetor Starts and runs as long as you pour gas into carburetor. will not run otherwise.

Open the gas cap, remove the fuel line from the carburetor and use compressed air to blow the line clear. Having done what you have already if the line was clear, you would have gas to the carburetor.

I have a 4 hp tecumseh that runs good when it is first running. After a little while it seems to loose power, runs slower and slower.Ive cleaned and set float in carb, put a new carb kit in also.plug and wire...

This could be 3 of possible solutions to this problem..
From a Sears Tech of 22 years,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

1) Replace the Fuel Cap! Remember that air must fill the void of the fuel going out to the carburetor, If the fuel cap is clogged It will cause poor performance.

2) Clogged fuel filter or bad fuel line, Ethanol in today's fuels can cause many problems for fuel related components in any engine that is made today!

3) Carburetor and Ignition, including flywheel timing key! Possible sheered flywheel key, Lack of fuel to engine over 5 minutes. Vapor Lock? Change to different fuel filter!!!

Starts fine runs good for 1-2 minutes then dies. starts up with several pulls or choke. then dies again. changed the sparkplug no differance. cleaned the airfilter same result. george from texas

Check the fuel filter and muffler for plugging. Check the fuel tank vent for plugging. Check the fuel lines for damage or decay. Check all of the carburetor fasteners for tightness including the mounting hardware for the carburetor to the cylinder. The carburetor does not appear to be pulling new fuel into itself after running on the initial prime. If the above hints don't help, you may have to service the carburetor. Check the gaskets and heat insulator block behind the carburetor for any obstruction/damage of the impulse passage which allows the carburetor to pump fuel. Hope this helps!

Mower Running Very Poorly

Before I got into the carburetor, I would let all the oil burn out. It's mostly in the muffler and no, that didn't hurt the cylinder/rings. I would put a new sparkplug in as that one is oil fouled. See how it runs. I would change the oil to make sure no fuel seeped into the crankcase. It may need a carb cleaning, especially if you weren't using a fuel stabilizer (such as STA-BIL).

Honda GCV160 5.5 on a pressure washer runs only intermittently

The problem is the plastic float in the carburetor, it's not adjustable and after sitting up with gas in it it distorts. Save yourself the trouble and buy a new one, you can get them online for $15-$20.
