Question about Canon Cameras

2 Answers

Hello, I bought a Canon DC210 camcorder and the appropriate DVD-RW discs. The videos and pictures when seen on the camera were great but I can't get the DVDs to play in my computer. The manual says to "finalize" the discs but, even the National Geographic photographers on the trip couldn't figure out how to do this. Please help! Thank you, JaneMiller

Have you tried another media player on the computer to run the disk like VLC, or a DIVX player, or the player that came with the CD of the camera when you initally purchased it. it can be a codec issue with the WMP.

about the Finalization, it is a step the recorder will ask before you remove the dvd right?

for disk finalization, first you have to plug in the camcorder using the charger then you have to make sure that the play light is on,you do this by pushing the on and off switch down toward mode then you will see the green play light come on,next push the joystick in when you go to finalize, then make sure that the word yes is highlighted in orange push set and the finalization starts.

    hope this helps...

When I insert a new DVD RW it says can not read disc check disc. The camera will not give me the option to initialize disc either. These are brand new discs that I am using. I can record with older disc...

You have to be sure you bought the correct disks. Look in your manual or your camera. You could use DVD-RW or DVD+RW. They are not universal. You have to use the correct version. You also may want to try a DVD-R or DVD+R. They are cheaper but are not re-recordable. They are not erasable either. A good thing if you don't want to "accidentally" erase your movies!

MiniDVD+RW can not be recognized

The Canon DC210 will only work with 'minus' format DVDs. It will not work with 'plus' format DVDs.

When you use DVD-RW discs you will be able to initialise the discs.

Don't forget to rate this solution once you've tried it.

Dvd to prints

You can either
1. Transfer the still pictures from the camcorder to the PC, and then, either
1.1 use your PC software to print the pictures, or
1.2 use an online photo processing lab to print the pictures for you.
OR
2. Take the disc from the camcorder to a local photo printing shop and ask them to print the pictures you want printed.

But first ...
before you can transfer pictures or video from your Canon DC210 to your PC you need to finalise the disc in the camcorder.

You also need to make sure that the DVD drive on your PC is capable of reading a DVD-R, DVD-R DL or DVD-RW format as these are the only disk formats that the DC210 will handle. Not all PC DVD drives can read these formats.

To finalise the disk you must have the power adapter connected to the camera, plugged into a wall socket and turned on. Then, switch on the camera, put it into playback mode, Press 'Func.', select main menu, select 'disk operations', select 'finalise'. Don't move or shake the camera or switch it off whilst the finalising step is underway - this could cause problems.

Once finalising is complete, take it out of the camcorder and then follow steps 1.1, 1.2 or 2 above.

Good Luck.

Canon DC210 camcorder

The DC210 will only work with with Mini DVD -R or -RW. I had the same problem when the BestBuy salesman sold me +RW Mini DVD with the DC210. I went back to the store and got them changed for +RW and I was then able to use the DC210.

Dvdrw will not format in camera

I use Memorex and Sony Mini DVD-RW in my DC210 and both work fine.

To BUGFUZZ - the DC210 does not support DVD+RW - you must use either DVD-RW or DVD-R.
