Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,
What follows is my general advice on motors and brushes!
-------------------------------------------------------
It is not uncommon to find that the brushes are worn sufficiently for them to not make perfect contact with the commutator at the higher speeds- bouncing and sparking. Now, a word or two of advice from this retired Englishman in SW France. It might be suggested that just the brushes on the motor want changing; experience (of others) suggests that they may only last months rather than many years UNLESS the motor itself is refurbished. Refurbishment includes skimming the commutator on which the brushes run. Without skimming the brushes do not sit cleanly on the commutator (like the worn ones!), often causing excessive sparking and excessive wear on BOTH. Alternately a new motor! I changed the motor on our 19+ year-old Bosch at a cost of GBP250 ;-0(
The choice of course is entirely up to you- but do not forget that it is not an uncommon fault, especially if the washer is not exactly new. Others I have given this advice to have chosen new brushes and I don't blame them!
Good luck,
John C

Starter motor solenoid wont engage

There is condenser shaped part attched to the starter moter this is the part which makes the starter moter to spin and when it is stuck the moter does not spin you can check it by one person sitting in the car holding the key to start position and another one hit it softly with some spanner or something The starter moter will move there is a small gear in it which requires replace ment Or the other possible reason can be the carbon brushes in the starter moter are worn out or the place where these brushes touch on armature the place is worn out that Y ou will only come to know when you will take the moter away from the engine Lastly I hope you might have checked your battery that it is giving sufficient current to the moter

Can you replace a brocken axle shaft that goes into the scooter m

Hi. Why do you need to replace the motor? Very few motors completely burn out. Most suffer from stuck or worn brushes, and these can be fixed.
Some scooter companies will only supply the complete transaxle assembly, which makes it expensive.
What fault does you machine have, and how old is it?
Good luck. Neil.

Water comes in but will not begin to wash

hi there......this problem is usually related to badly worn brushes in the motor...a quick way to check this is.....(1) remove the machine from its position...bringing it foward enough to tilt it back sufficiently allowing you access to the botom of the machine...(2) insect the motor for signs of black carbon dust...indicating brush ware....gently tap the motor with a small hammer...or suitable object....stand the machine uright again...select spin....run machine....if all is ok machine will run indicating a set of replacement carbon brushes are required....failure to run indicates brushes very badly worn and possibility of damaged motor...remove the rear panel of the machine...remove the belt...remove the motor for inspection..of armature and brushes...any burn or discolouring marks on the copper brush track...indicates a failed motor..which will require replacing....

I was using my Delta TS220LS table saw and it quit running.

Try taking out your brushes and clean them, also clean the brush holders. (make sure the brushes slide all the way in and out freely and that they are not worn down past the ware mark) Also make sure you put the brushes back in the same way or the electric break may not work properly because of the ware pattern it makes.

While you have the brushes out look into the brush holders and look at the armature. The copper blocks are called the commutator if it does not look smooth you might want to take it somewhere and have it tested.

Also make sure your are getting power through your switch to the motor.

More than likely it is your brushes or brush holders.

Briggs & Stratton Burnt Brushes

Are you running something that has a high startup current? A well pump, air conditioner, air compressor, etc.
All of these things draw more than the rated power from your generator for a little while, then settle down and draw the regular rated power they have on the dataplate. This higher level of power is called the surge rating of the generator ( think the EXL8000 is something like 8250 watts for 30 seconds, check your manual) - if you regularly go over the surge rating you'll burn brushes, mess up slip rings, and potentialy kill a voltage regulator once in a while.

When we calculate how large a generator to use for an emergency backup system we add up all of the currents required by all of the things that have to run, then we calculate the maximum surge power for all the loads that have this requirement. We try and get a generator that will supply the "regular" load at 80% of it's rated capacity and still be able to handle the expected surge load. Sometimes we have to use a larger generator than needed for the regular load to get the surge load to be OK.

So you might need to trade up to the 10Kw Briggs to handle your load.

hi Many universal motor malfunctions are caused by wearing down of the carbon brushes, the soft blocks of carbon that complete the electrical contact to the motor's commutator. When these brushes become worn, the motor will spark, and electrical contact may be incomplete.try this
Step 1: To sight-check the carbon brushes, remove the screws that hold the brushes and brush springs into the brush holders at the sides of the commutator. The screws will pop out of the screw holes; turn the motor over to tap out the brushes. The ends of the brushes should be curved to fit the commutator; if they're worn down, new brushes are needed.
Step 2: To check carbon brushes with a continuity tester, remove the motor lead wires from the circuit. Tag the wires as you disconnect them so that you'll be able to reconnect them properly. Hook the tester clip to one motor lead and touch the probe to the other lead; the tester should light or buzz. Slowly rotate the motor shaft, keeping the tester in position. If the tester doesn't light or buzz, or if it flickers or stutters when you turn the motor shaft, the brushes should be replaced. If the springs behind the brushes are damaged, they should be replaced as well.

Step 3: Replace worn carbon brushes and damaged springs with new ones made specifically for the motor. The model information (number and make) is stamped on a metal plate fastened to the motor, or embossed on the metal housing of the motor. If you can't find the model information, take the worn brushes and springs with you to an appliance-parts store to make sure you get the right kind. Insert the new springs and brushes in the brush holders, replace the brush assemblies, and secure the new brushes with the mounting screws that held the old brushes.

Hotpoint wd62p or aquarius washer dryer .fault no drum rotation .moter seems ok carbon brushes ok .belt ok machine takes in water wants to advance .have motor out to check measures 5ohms rotting all...

Hi Fred,

If the motor buzzes, makes little movements but does not have the power to spin, then you need to replace the run capacitor for the motor. It's a big cylindrical one you can't miss.

No real test for them, just replace.

This is usually the fault - worn brushes, stuck brushes or duff capacitor.

(Mine's on it's way out too on an aquarius WD61, but like the plumbers tap - I'll wait a bit before doing it lol! )

Replace worn parts and ware to find them

You didn't give a location, so I cant offer someone to help. I do know that the magnetic switch, otherwise known as a contactor, chatters because its not getting enough voltage at the control coil. It should have a label listing the coil voltage on it, check the power source and go from there.
