Question about JBL EON 15-G2 Powered DJ Speaker With EQ Speaker

2 Answers

My JBL eon 15g2 speaker was working fine and then suddenly the lower woofer suddenly stopped. The higher tweeter still seems to work. All of the fuses are fine and all the wires seem to be properly connected inside. There was somewhat of a crackling noise too. Any help would be appreciated.

The braided wires from the speaker connectors to the voice coil could be broken (from repetitive movement) or it could be the voice coil it self that could be cut open from a miss alignment of the cone (ware and tear), delicately push on the cone and feel if it rubs, a simple test is to check the IMPEDANCE of the speaker with a OHMMETER, if you have a reading (4,6,or 8 ohms) than the speaker is fine, check the rest of the wiring, if it reads OPEN than you need a new speaker...

when you say "a new speaker" this would be a replacement woofer and/or diaphragm, correct?

It depends on how much the speaker system is worth... if your woofer cost more than 1000.00$ than you can have it re-coned for about 500.00$, but if it's just a home system speaker you can just buy an other woofer and replace it for less than 100.00$...

well I don't know where you live, but any good electronic store near you will sell you what you need, again depends on what quality the unit is... JBL are usually very GOOD (high end) you should replace with JBL brand, the most important is to replace it with the same OHMAGE 4,6,8... and the same SPECS according to the dimension of the caisson (cubic foot and port hole diameter) and the wattage... the rest is strictly esthetics...

do you think this is what i need?http://www.fullcompass.com/product/31177...

meaning that do u think this has all the speaker components with it, so i can just connect the two (black and red) wires to the terminals and it should be good?

Yes but I'm surprised that they sell the complete baffle with it... I gess it's an other way of making more money since you just need the woofer, I suppose it is frameless and the woofer is part of the front baffel assembly (they dont make things like they use to ha!) and for replacement, yes it is PLUG & PLAY just plug the two corresponding wires to the woofer's connectors RED to the + connector and BLACK to the - connector... chears!

I had the same problem. back of the speaker, where the wires connect, seems to be a adjustment. I just turned the silver nut tighter and it started playing again. never had problems again. Blackie- SouthAfrica

I installed a brand new tweeter in my JBL EON 15 G2 & the new tweeter blew. What else could be the problem?

These are "powered" speakers and any little bit
of distortion can be amplified enough to "blow" it!
Also the amp could be "shorted"! Have your JBL
dealer test it!!!

Powered 15" JBL EON

There are two power supplies in there, one for the woofer and one for the tweeter.
You may have blown one of them.
Are you under warranty? If so definitely check the JBL website for a local authorized repair center ... they are local people, usually very nice and easy to deal with, and the warranty coverage is excellent.

I have a set of cerwin vega ls-12 3way woofer works but tweeters

There is an old cheap way to test any speaker. If you have a multi-meter, set it on OHMS. Then, while holding one lead against one speaker terminal, tap the other meter lead to the other speaker terminal. If the speaker is good, you will hear faint crackles. If you do not have a meter do not despair, you can do the same test using an AA or AAA battery with leads held to the battery.
Good luck! P.S. Nice speakers.

Eon 15-g2 upper part of my jbl is getting hot

The tweeter is not the problem. The Eons use the vents below the tweeter to cool the amp and woofer. Sounds to me like you have a power supply problem in the amp, possibly a bad capacitor or diode. You have to check the amp for proper operation.

JBL EON G2 15 loud noise.

The noise may be the reason why the speakers were available used. The tweeter may be defective.

Jbl eon

the eon woofer is designed to fit the small frame of the inside cabinet. The EV woofers look too deep to fit but you can try. I do think that the built in amps were set to work with only the JBL woofers so there might be a signal problem using the built in amp. The eon face seems to have their own screws to hold the grill so if they aren't holding you can drop some cement to help hold the srews in place. The front does not allow removal of the woofer so it seems whatever you do should not effect anything.
