    Hi ,

    It will not allow me to format anything but the internal memory(IN).It will not let me format the memory stick od sd card

  • mghodder Aug 09, 2008

    I am so sorry .You are indeed the most helpful of ANYONE that has attempted to help me.Many apologies.I did not realize this .How can I help you.So Sorry

  • mghodder Aug 09, 2008

    I can bring up The developer menu but I am unsure what to do when I get into that menu.Just to let you know whats happening the camera is stuck on the internal memory and it will only let me format the internal memory only.It will not let me select sd or memory stick.It will also revert back to 640x480 and will not let me change itEverything else seem to be working well,it is just not recognizing any memory card at all.

  • mghodder Aug 09, 2008

    Its seems to have let me download the fimware but is still stuck on internal memory.I would love to be able to send it for service but because Minolta no longer makes cameras no one will touch it.(parts are no longer available,etc.)I have rarely used the digital camera because I have couple of film cameras(SLR's with various lenses)Nothing happened to the digital I just took it out of its case one day and Bam this problem.I am really coming to the end of my rope with the G500 but

    I do love the quality from it for a small point and shoot and thats why I am trying to find some sort of solution.

  • mghodder Aug 09, 2008

    I'll try that now but just in case you seem to be very knowledgeable about camera what would you recommend as a replacement.

You are probably using the wrong type of SD card. I had the same problem with that exact camera, the new SD cards are marked SD-HC and do not work with the older cameras, find a 2GB or lower SD card and you should see it will work.

Hi,

Might it be that what you refer to as "reset the memory" is actually format the memory, that is erase all its content and lay down a new, fresh, clean system?

If yes, then in the SET UP menu, select FORMAT and press right, select media type (what ever memory it is you can cleaned/formatted), press either right or MENU/SET button. To confirm select YES with left or right and press again the MENU/SET button. Once it starts to format " Now FORMAT" displayed would be shown with a graph at the bottom indicating how much of the memory has been formatted and how many more to go.

If no, pls post back what is displayed in the screen.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

    Hi,

    Perhaps unknown to you, the rating "Inappropriate" precludes that my assistance is no longer required and hence there would be no reason for me to volunteer any further help. Additionally, the same "Inappropriate" has made my ratings considerably lower and has changed my standing on the site and again would normally discourage any further help.

    In any case, have you tried what I posted in your original problem here? Would appreciate if you can try that and pls pls provide feedabck.

    Below is a copy of my original response to your problem....

    Hi,

    If it is not a hardware fault and your original query is "Is there any way to reset it?", pls see below procedures for an alternate reset. This reset would access the hidden service menu. This is of course assuming that:

    • there is no hardware fault; and

    • everything else works except external memory.
    Further, there are risks (as I was made to understand) since any mistake could make the problem worst. Follow procedures/try at your discretion.

    1. Press and hold menu button (standard menu will appear in the display)

    2. Press and hold shutter button(at this point, both the menu button and shutter button are still held down)

    3. Then (while continuing to hold the menu button and shutter button down throughout the sequence below):

    • 2xTELE (press right zoom button twice)

    • 1xWIDE (press left zoom button once)

    • (a blue information screen appears here)

    • TRASH (press trashcan icon button once)

    • PLAY (press upper left button on back of camera)

    • 2xTELE (press right zoom button twice)

    • 1xWIDE (press left zoom button once)

    1. The developer menu will appear (you can release the shutter button and menu button now).

    2. If you scroll through the choices, you'll find the
      reset choices. But, be careful that you DO NOT go into any of the AF
      calibration menus. One of them will start a calibration of the AF with
      no further warning. If you don't have a test target setup at the
      correct distance to the camera, it will mess up your AF very badly.
    The above was originally posted here.

    The
    alternative is to crack open the camera, remove the back-up memory
    battery to revert the firmware to factory default condition.

    Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

    Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

    Thank you for responding. Lets try helping you out first with your concern and we will then take care of the rating problem later.

    There were 19 proposed solutions in your original problem here and I find it surprising that not even one did worked. Pls postback, what happened when you tried the alternate reset as posted above?

    I understand. Let's recap what we know so far:

    • everything basically works except will not acknowledge external memory;

    • reverts back to 640 X 480;

    • firmware could not be upgraded since it requires an external memory (at least 2mb);

    • you were able to reach "developer menu" but would not know how to proceed. Other than the "AF
      calibration menu
      "
      all others could be checked. Pls see if any refers to memory priority/choice/enabling;

    • it would seem that replacing the camera is the least of your options;

    • you would prefer a DIY (do-it-yourself) rather than seek the services of a qualified professional;

    • you have tried removing tha battery;

    • you have tried formatting both types of external memories using a card reader and a PC.
    Could the camera still be read by a PC? If yes, and I believe it has a 2mb internal memory, is it possible to try again loading the firmware using the internal memory? I know you said it won't fit but pls bear with me. I downloaded G500E.EXE and it was decompressed to 1.93mb. It might just might squeeze fit assuming the internal memory has no other files inside.

    Cheers.

    All might not be lost, a repair shop who claims to repair G500s, Royal Camera Service, Inc.

    An interesting read on a firmware bug which may be the cause of the 640 X 480 issue.

    Open it up yourself. You would need jeweler's mini screwdriver set. Have a look at the inside. See if the pins in contact with the memory might be damaged, dirty, unsoldered, disconnected. This would likewise be a chance to remove the internal memory battery and hopefully reset the entire camera assuming it is a firmware glitch.

Please let me know if your old memory card does not work ( Which was working before)

My camera will not accept the sd position under format. will only accept internal memory position.

You need to format the internal memory with no card in the camera. Once it is erased, your card should work properly.

My Minolta G500 will not take a picture. I have a message on the screen that says "card is protected" What does that mean?

remove the memory card, there is usually a switch on them - move it to the other position.

its to protect the data on the card (so you can't write to the card).

Memory card sd

Hi,

Appreciate the direct "Ask Me".

It would seem that you would have to do it all over again, that is download the pictures again to the SD memory card. But before doing this, you would need to format the SD card using the digicam rather than the PC.

In some cases, it maybe that the picture files (downloaded from the computer) does not match the image property requirements of the digicam so that even if the image files are stored in the SD memory card, the camera is unable to list/view them

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

How to use a minolta dimage g500 camera

Do you mean the memory card in your camera or do you mean another device?

First check that your memory card works in another device. There is a lock button on the SD card that needs to be unlocked.

Second, check that your camera settings have the SD card option selected. You can select the destination of your images.

Dimage g500 not saving pictures to memory stick

Here is the link to the manual if you need it; http://ca.konicaminolta.com/support/manuals/digital_cameras/dimage-g/dimage_g500/D_G500_E.pdf page 105 describes how to set the memory priority between the stick and the camera. If this doesn't help then try formatting the stick (page 99) If still no joy then I suspect the memory stick is faulty - see if you can borrow one and try it. Hope this helps - please post again if not :)
