Question about Vizio P42HD Television

1 Answer

My Vizio Plasma P42HDTV10A had a loud "pop" about 1 month ago and the picture was only in faded red but sound was ok. I found info that it likely was the zSustain board and i verified mine had burn marks so i purchased a replacement. After installing the replacement the TV worked great for 2 weeks, then suddenly there is no sound and the picture is darkened. I connected to a cable box using HDMI and a DVD using AV with same results - no sounds and darkened picture. I connected another TV to cable box and it sounds and displays ok. I don't see any obvious burned out boards ( the replacement ZSus board still looks good ) but was hoping for some advise on what might be the problem. Some wires on one of the connectors on the ZSustain board came loose when I took out the original - i put them back ( hopefully ) in the correct location on the connector. This is the connector with 1 black and 12 white wires - I had hoped since the TV worked with the new ZSus board that i guessed correctly when putting the 1st four white wires back in but now am wondering if this could be part of the problem?

YES and NO, the original problem could come from the powersupply, check for all correct voltage...

I found 2 wires that may have been touching each other - i separated them with tape, put the ZSus board back in and after some adjustments got the TV back with sound and good picture.

Loud pop is usually damage to one of the boards that drive the screen--inverters or T-con type boards.

Not likely to be a do it yourself repair.

Picture went out on p50hdm Vizio Plazma tv after loud POP

It's either the backlight lamp or backlight inverter is busted due to a power failure or fluctuation. Here's how to determine which is which:
  1. Grab a flashlight.
  2. Turn on the TV.
  3. Shine the flashlight onto the screen.
  4. If you cannot see any display even a faint one, the backlight inverter is dead, else the backlight lamps are busted.
  5. Replace which ever is the culprit.

Made popping sound then picture went black

I have the Vizio JV50P (Plasma) after 2 months it's started to make a loud pop sound then no picture. Vizio sent a third part repair man to replace the power board, main board, left and right sustainer boards and no less then 24 hours later... I had the same issue. I was just on the phone this evening with "Vizio level 3 support" and they out right lied to me. They told me they never heard of this issue before and yet it all over the internet. Shame on me for not searching the internet more thoroughly for known issues with Vizio products. If I had I would have easily found the term that seems to have associated itself with the Vizio’s line of flat panel TV’s ‘The Pop Of Death”

I am current climbing the Vizio Org Chart to get my money back. I have spoken from level 1 thru level 3 tech support. Who were willing to replace the defective unit with a refurbished unit!!! NO WAY! Then I spoke with a customer service rep and then his supervisor. “No Help!!!” They read from a script and showed no compassion for my issue. They too wanted to send me a refurbished set that is only covered by the balance of my warranty! A set that has the same issue that they can not even prevent from occurring and sets made as recent as 9/07 (manufactures date), new sets! I just left a voice mail message with the Customer Service Manager of Vizio corporate (aka V, inc.) and will await his call back tomorrow. I then searched the internet and found the term that seems to be growing in association to Vizio… ‘The Pop Of Death’ I can not wait to hit him with that term tomorrow! If I do not hear back from him, I will contact his superior. It’s very easy to find that information on the BBB. As far as I am concern Vizio is not only a poor product but a deceptive company who so far does not stand by their product. I will follow up this post in a week or so.
