If your computer came with a motherboard disc the sound drivers could be on it
click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll to sound, video and game controllers you might see a yellow question mark? Right click to reinstall drivers
click start control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers make sure you have selected the
(((appropriate speakers))) also audio you will find 3 drop down lists make sure you have the correct settings there
also
click start control panel sounds and audio devices you can adjust the volume there also select speaker volume you can change your settings there you can also tick in the box place icon in taskbar
if his does not fix the problem

have you tried this control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers select the appropriate speakers from the drop down list or navigate to the device manager scroll to system devices + to expand, system speaker right click properties then select use this device (enable) also you might check
the speakers plug/outlet is usually at the back of the computer you will have to open up the computer to check the lead attached to the rear of the input plug make sure the connection is good
try cleaning your computer of dust using a fine air blower from a compressor making VERY sure that there is no MOISTURE in the air line specifically around the sound card and the CPU central processing unit dust causes static to build up in a computer
hope this helps

I have polk audio speakers that came with my old hp f50. I just purchased a new hp but can't get my speakers to work

The old speakers are not compatible. Your new computer is looking for an external power source for the speakers, the older polk speakers that came with Hp computers have none.

My monitor quit working. I plugged up my old one but it has no on board speakers. I plugged in my old speakers (Polk Audio) but I can't make them work. Does anyone have a fix? Thank you.

Yes, just download or update your audio drivers from windows. You can probably just update your windows and it will do it for you. Just go to programs > windows update.

Next thing you can check is that all the cords are plugged up right.

Then right click on your speaker icon on the task bar (its usually by your clock on the computer) and click on Properties or Playback Devices (whichever you see on pop up menu. You can also get to the same place by opening Control Panel and clicking on the Sound icon).

So now you just click on the tab called Playback and make sure you pick the speakers that you want. Choose the plug, or place where the speakers are plugged in (front headphone jack, rear audio jack, or where ever you plugged them) and set them as the Default playing device by right clicking on it and choosing that option from the pop up menu.

You can explore around these tabs and can test your speakers out and what not. Just look under all these tabs and explore. Hopefully this will help you get them working.

I did something on the internet and now my speakers don't work anymore. The icon at the bottom right hand corner is gone. What can I do to hear again? I don't have the manual for the speakers to refer back...

Looks like your audio drivers have gone. have you tried system restore? Go to start, all programs, system tools system restore, then choose a previous date when your sound was still ok.

Speakrs don't work on new HP Pavilion desktop.

If you're using Windows XP, go to the Control Panel, then double-click on Sound, then go to the Audio tab and make sure the playback device is set to your Realtek output.

If you're using Windows Vista, go to Control Panel and click on Hardware and Sound, then click on Sound. Make sure your Realtek device is selected with a green check mark. If it isn't, just click on it and then click the Set as Default button down below. Vista sound configuration is kinda quirky, and it does do some kind of detection when you plug a cable into an audio jack, so you might leave this screen up while you plug your speakers into the green audio jack in the sound card and see if it pops anything weird up.

My speaker sound

If you are using Windows XP, click >Start>Control Panel>Sound, Speech and audio devices> again >Sound, Speech and audio devices> then check the "Device Volume" control. Also check the controls under "Advanced" button.
