The flash does not work in low light either.

Either you have selected flash in auto mode, in this way flash will not work in some instances, when there is sufficient light detected by the sensing device of your camera.

try shooting to dark areas and see if this will help

Flash off, no flash

I had exactly the same problem, very annoying.
The camera does not need a new tube, transformer or flash board, it only thinks that you are in the wrong mode and won't let you turn on the flash. Do the following to avoid the problem:
1. Touch "menu" then under the "rec mode" change from Burst to NORMAL.
2. Touch the flash icon and now it will be possible to turn the flash on...

How to turn the flash on

On the back of the camera, push the right arrow and you will bring up the flash options. Most of the time you might want to choose "Auto", but the lighting symbol without the circle around it will be the flash "on" setting. If the flash doesn't work in this setting, something else is wrong, possibly the Xenon tube is bad or the flash capacitor inside the camera. Hope this helps.

Usually that indicates that the main battery needs replacement. The camera will detect the low battery charge and disable the flash.

If the camera is more than a year old or you take a lot of ppictures then this is most likley your problem.

Can't take pictures with the flash

I would suggest returning it for one that will take pictures when the flash is turned on. Doesn't sound like you are doing anything wrong, just sounds like the camera is faulty.

Hi,

1. Turn OFF cam
2. Remove the battery or the power supply
3. Turn the switch to CAMERA for about 30 sec
4. Turn the switch to OFF
5. Install the battery or power supply
6. Turn the switch to MEMORY
7. Open the LCD cover and press the RESET button ( small inner button )
8. You will be prompt to adjust date/time. Do it
9. Take some pictures

it seems that the flash is not charging. the only way to fix is to show it to some repairer.
