You have physically damaged the hard drive beyond economic repair. you will have to send the drive to a specialist to recover any data on it.
good news is you can buy an internal hard drive to replace the damaged one.

I have powered on my computer (Dell Dimension 2350), and the Iomega 1TB Prestige USB 2.00 Desk Top Hard Drive Serial No. 97AL67417B, still in warranty, and the light is on the Hard Drive. I have not used...

Beryl,

once youve booted up your dell, you simply plug in the external harddrive (hdd). After you've plugged the hdd in (and make sure you plug the power source to the hdd too if it comes with one) then you wait until it is recognized on your computer. It should simply show up as another drive once you double click the "my computer" icon. Once it does show up, double click the drive to open it up like you would a folder. Then you can simply copy and paste whatever files from your computer into it. Transferring multitudes of files will take time so be patient.

If it is not showing up on you "my computer" screen, then first restart the computer leaving it plugged in and see if it shows up. No? Try to install a driver from a cd it came with. No cd? https://iomega-na-en.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/16743

Hope this helped...

MY IOMEGA HDD 80GB KEEPS CLICKING AND NOT CONNECTING TO THE PC. wHAT IS THE PROBLEM?

There can be several causes for the clicking noise. Your disk drive may not be getting enough power or the drive may have failed. If you have an external power supply for the drive, make sure it is connected to power and it didn't fall out of the outlet. If you can try another USB port on your (or another) computer, try it. If the drive fails to mount on another computer with the disk's power supply connected to power, the power supply for the disk or the disk itself may have failed. If you have an identical power supply from an identical drive, you can see if that isolates the problem. Please post back with results of your tests.

External HDD not recognized after a time of inactivity

you are guessing right... this is caused due to system going in standby suspend mode which powers down the HDD ... and when the system comes back from suspend mode... the win vista thinks no external HDD is attached to the system ... thereby removing it from the devices list.

right click desktop select properties and select screensaver tab and then power options. select turn off the hard disks and select never. this is for winxp .. but it will be similar to this procedure in vista.

Lightly Dropped Seagate 100GB External Hard Drive

Your not going to like this, but remember you did ask..
The only way to recover your data is to use a data recovery centre.
You can try this place if you are in the USA
This is not an endorsement of that particular company, but an idea of what you will be dealing with.

For the record, there is no such thing as a light drop when it comes to hdd's. The drive will have recorded the damage as a G-Force that can be read off the controller board at the factory and will not be covered under any warranty either.

Sorry for the bad news.
