Hi,
Please confirm it is Onkyo DV-SP405 DVD Player or any other model?
Also take off top cover of player to check does disc spin when disc tray goes in unit?
Thanks.

Tip

CD Insert Without pushing a button!

This will not work with a Laptop drive unless it is the slot loading type.
We already have 'Eject' when we right click the CD/DVD drive from (My Computer), which ejects the drive tray. But to insert the tray inside,we have to manually push the insert button on CD/DVD drive.
Another way most PC owners insert that CD tray is by pushing the tray itself. I'm sure nobody mentioned this when you got that PC, but that push to insert feature (Also called the bump feed) is not really safe to use over time. If you happen to say, push too hard because you are in a hurry, the gear which pulls your CD tray in can skip a tooth, making that CD or DVD open and close all by itself, or even worse, making it stay locked tight forever.

5b3ffe0.jpg

Here is a trick that allows you to insert the drive tray without actually touching that button. Simply by putting the 'Insert' sub-context(as shown in above figure) menu on the CD/DVD drives Context menu. For this to happen, we need to use a dll file from our windowssystem32 folder.

First of all, download this file CDEject.zip and extract it. There will be two files CDeject.dll and CDeject.reg. Now follow the step by step procedures.

1. CDeject.dll -> copy this file to X:windowssystem32 folder (here X is your corresponding drive letter, usually it's drive C:)

2. CDeject.reg -> execute it. It shows a warning message, accept that and click OK.

Now try right clicking your CD or DVD drive and click eject, then right click again and choose insert.

Amazingly cool isn't it?

So far I haven't found a way to make the CD hop in the tray all by itself, but I am still hopeful.

And you thought you couldn't program!

Have fun with that!

LG GH22NS70 Super multi DVD Rewriter just used

Power cable attached, interface cable attached, (Dta cable), and the small audio cable attached, plus computer on, and Windows loaded.

Windows XP:
1) Click on Start

2) Right-click on My Computer

3) Left-click on Properties at the bottom of the list

4) Left-click on the Hardware tab

5) Left-click on Device Manager

6) When Device Manager loads, left-click on the + sign to the left of - DVD/CD-ROM drives

7) Right-click on the name of the optical drive.

8) Left-click on Uninstall

A Microsoft 'squawk box' will come up,
"Warning you are about to uninstall this device"
It's okay. Click on OK.

Close all windows, go back to your desktop screen.
Turn the computer off normally. (Start > Turn Off Computer > Turn Off)

Wait 1 minute. Turn the computer back on.
You should get a pop-up out of the system tray, "Found new hardware", and perhaps another one will follow, "Found XXXX DVD drive"

No? Doesn't work?
Try using another 4-pin standard Peripheral power cable.

http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#peripheral

(The IDE harddrive shown, is just an example of a device that uses a 4-pin standard Peripheral power cable. Mistakenly referred to as a 'Molex' power cable)

Make sure the interface cable (Data cable) is plugged in tightly.

I have a new HP - Pavilion dv7-3112sa Refurbished Laptop. The Disk drive is not playing DVDs or CD ROMs. It will play audio CDs fine but when I put in a DVD or CD ROM it just buzzes but does nothing.

It sounds like the drive may be bad. You may want to try getting any updates that may be available from the manufacturer. Also if it does not work you could try reinstalling the drive.
To do this go to start > right click on my computer or computer > select properties > click on the hardware tab > then select device manager > within the device manager look for DVD/CD-ROM drives > click the plus symbol on left > double click the cd dvd drive > this will open the dvd properties within here click the Driver tab on the top of screen > then click uninstall button. > Once uninstall ed restart computer. When the computer is loading back up it will reinstall the dvd drivers.
If this does not resolve the issue contact the PC manufacturer.

How to play a cd

Hello,

Usually the DVD drive or the CD drive has a very small button on the front side of the Drive, if you see a button press it, the tray will come out and you will be able to put the cd on the tray and than press that button again it will take the cd in and will play for you.

However if you feel that difficult, try doing this,
simply go to MY COMPUTER, there you can see your dvd-drive or cd-drive, you can right click on the drive and click on "eject" it will eject the tray just like a normal dvd or cd player and you can insert the disc to play.

if there is anything else i can help you with please let me know.

Thank you.

Hi I'm Rain ,
Ok follow these instructions to reboot your CD Rom drive.

  1. click start then My Computer .
  2. In My Computer right click the DVD/CD rom drive icon .
  3. In the list , Click eject to see if the drive is being reconized .
  4. If nothing happens repeat steps 1-2
Now when you get to sep 3 you will click properties .

5. In properties click Hardware .

6. In Hardware click the DVD/CD device to highlight it .

7. Click properties .

Now look to the bottom of that window to see device status .
If it says , this device is working properly .Properties .
Next click Driver . In driver you will see a list of option tabs that allows you to , Roll Back driver Update driver and Disable driver .
The other option is Driver Details.

Click Roll Back driver to restore the driver back to the state before you added the latest program . Click ok and follow the screen instructions.
If this fails , you can follow these steps to get back to Driver and chose
Disable Driver . Click ok if another window pops up.
Now what you are doing is rebooting the DVD/CD rom drive.
This will restart all the drivers that are associated with the DVD/CD rom
device .
Now follow all the steps again to get back to Driver .
Now in Driver you will need to click Enable to restart the DVD/CD rom
device . Reboot your system and try the DVD/ CD tray to see if it responds . If it still fails to respond you most likely will need to replace or service the DVD/CD Rom Hardware { the Tray } .

CD drive not working

Based on your indication the CD drive is clean, and you know the cables are attached to it, inside the computer. (Flat ribbon IDE interface cable, and 4-pin Molex connector power cable)

1.Go to Device Manager

Left-click on Start. Right-click on My Computer. Go down, and Left-click on Properties. Left-click on the Hardware tab. Go down, and Left-click on Device Manager.

Left-click on the + sign to the left of, DVD/CD-ROM drives.
Right-click right on the name of the CD drive.

(Example: Lite On DVDRW LH-20A1P.
eMachines Support indicates the T5212 has a DVD burner drive, and a CD drive. Right-click on the CD drive name))

In the drop down list, Left-click on Properties.
Left-click on the Driver tab
Go below, and Left-click on the Update Driver 'button'. Now go below, and Left-click on OK.

Close all windows, go back to your desktop screen.
Shut your computer down normally. (Start>Turn Off Computer>Shut Down)

Do Not Restart. We need a 'Hard Shut Down'.
Wait 1 minute, turn your computer on.

Still doesn't work?
Let's play hard ball.

2.Go back to Device Manager. Left-click on the + sign to the left of DVD/CD-ROM drives. Right-click on the name of the CD drive. Left-click on Properties. Left-click on the Driver tab.
This time go down, and Left-click on the Uninstall 'button'. Go below, and Left-click on OK

There will be a Microsoft 'squawk box' that comes up. "Warning you are about to uninstall this device"
Left-click on OK. (It IS okay!)

Close all windows. Shut down your computer normally. (Again, we need a 'Hard Shut Down'. To Restart a computer is known as a 'Soft Shut Down')

Wait 1 minute. Turn your computer on.
After Windows loads all the way, and all of your Start Menu programs have loaded, you should see a pop-up out of your system tray. (Bottom of Windows desktop screen)

"Found New Hardware", and perhaps another one, "Found XYZ CD drive". (XYZ = the CD drive name)

No still?

The driver for your CD drive, is located within the Windows XP operating system on your computer.
If your CD drive does not work now, I suggest it has failed.

Drives such as Optical drives, and Harddrives, are mechanical devices. Their 'Lifespan', is rated in so many hours of usage. Your CD drive may be at the end of it's 'Lifespan'.

When I turned on the computer this morning the CD/DVD holder(tray??) kept coming out and back in every minute. I restarted the computer and the same thing happens. How can I stop this?

  1. Run anti virus software. May have a bug.
  2. No Virus you may have a hardware issue check to make sure nothing is lodged to stop tray from going all the way in.
  3. Depress cd eject button shold fell lite click when youpress it, move your finger around the button to make sure it is free. It should spring back when you let it up. If no click or button does not come up you have a switch problem.
  4. Make sure front pannel on cdrom is seated evenly & flush if not it will hinder or hold down eject button.
  5. If still acting up you may need to replace drive.

How can I tell if my comuter has a DVD/CD drive or just a CD drive?

Normally, the front edge of the Drive tray will indicate CD, CD-RW, DVD or DVD-RW.

You can also check in Device Manager inside Windows (Press the Windows Flag Key+Pause Key, Hardware Tab, Device Manager button) Click the + next to DVD/CD-ROM Drives, and see what model drive is listed. If DVD isn't part of the drive model, it is a CD drive only.
