My T22 2647 laptop has suddenly decided to run so slowly that it's now unusable. On switch-on it brings up XP but takes an eternity to do so. The processor is reported as running at 900 MHz, there's 250 MB memory so it looks like the hard drive needs replacing, but I can't be sure. I'd be grateful for any suggestions on next steps to take to repair it. Thanks a lot.

    Regards

    Len

When you boot from your OS CD it will run through Set Up and give you the option to format the harddrive.
Just select NTFS for windows 2000 or XP, or FAT32 for Windows 98/ME.

Replace hard drive motherboard

Before you start replacing drive you need to ask yourself if you are trying to replace a bad hard drive and just want to start with a clean install of the O.S. OR are you replacing your hard drive with a bigger one and wish to keep your installed programs, data and documents. If you want to keep your data and documents you need to know how to save the Files and folders on your computer to a CD, DVD or a USB hard drive. Just replacing the hardware involves unplugging all cables from computer after shutting it down. Then opening the case and unplugging the cables from the hard drive and then remove the screw(s) retaining the hard drive. Remove the old hard drive from the case and replace it with the new one, replace screws and plug cables back up watching that that the connectors are correctly aligned with the key(s) on the hard drive's sockets. Replacing the Hard drive also involves installing the O.S. and all your programs and applications on the new hard drive. You can find a lot of information in the internet about this.

T22 disk read error

Sounds like the Operating System is corrupt. I would re-format the hard drive and re-install the OS that should solve the problem. If not then the Hard drive needs to be replaced.

West Digit 250 Gig drive died

This may sound crazy but this is how we recovered data off the hard drives when i was in college for CCNA.
Take the hard drive out and put it in a freezer for about 20-25min and then take it out and insert it into your laptop, It should give you enough time to recover your data. If it still will not load you could try getting a hard drive enclosure and throw the hard drive in the freezer again and make sure you have a working computer aval. and then take the hard drive out and install it in the hard drive enclosure and then plug the usb into your working computer and try and get your information off of it. Hope this helps.

MY PC WONT ALLOW MY EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE TO LOAD AND CANT LOCATE THE DRIVERS

If you are using Windows 98 SP2 or newer support for the external HD is built in. Installing drives shouldn't be necessary, just Plug & Play.

While it is possible the OS has become corrupted the most likely reason is a bad hard drive controller chip on the drive itself.

If very recently purchased I'd take it back to the seller and ask for an exchange. If that isn't possible, if the drive is still under warranty I'd send it back to the manufacturer for replacement. Look them up via Google and get an RMA # from their support staff first.

I have recently bought a HITACHI SIMPLE DRIVE 1.0 TB DATA STORAGE and it had no disk and no manuel and i cant seem to install. I also searched the internet and have found no software to help me...any...

if its an external hard drive then and you want to install the hard drive on your computer, you have to install the BIOS on it and then install the OS you want on it also. this will make the hard drive able to be used by your computer.

if its a portable hard drive, then just use the control panel of your computer to find the device, normally any plug-n-play device is usually recognised and installed automatically by your computer.

cheers.

cheers.

Sorry, but no function key for this. This will most likely be a hard drive failure. Start by do a system repair with your recovery or operating system disc. If the repair doesn't take, then reformat the hard drive, using a full NTFS format not the quick, and install a new operating system. If the hard drive will not format, or you have any issues during or after the install, then the hard drive has failed and will need replaced.

No power to hard drive Fujitsu lifebook laptop

The new hard drive will not have an OS on it until you install one, so expect a no OS found message.

The old hard dirve may have lost its master boot record or the boot cylinder is bad.

You mentioned DOS. Do you have bootable DOS diskettes available?

First plug the old drive into the desk top and copy off any data you wish to save.

Depending on the operating system on the desktop and utilities available you might be able to recreate the master boot record on the old drive. Be very careful you know which drive is which or you could cause problems with the desktop drive.

You might also be able to run DISK MANAGER and test the drive for errors.

If you can boot the DOS diskettes the command you need to run is FDISK /MBR with the old hard drive installed.

Sorry, I really need a lot more info to be more specific.
