Question about Dryers

1 Answer

When turning the cycle settings knob, the dryer makes an immediate electrical hum as if the motor had been started but was unable to turn. This occurs before the actual start knob is turned

    Hello,
    This is a hotpoint model NVLR333ET0WB. S/N is HS223472H

  • kford327 Apr 09, 2011

It hums like a start capacitor has failed, but I have no reference to indicate whether it has one, and even so, the start switch hasn't been turned to start, so it shouldn't be trying at this point.

It is a hot point NVLR333ET0WB, S/N HS223472H. This is the third time I've posted make and model, but I haven"t seen it post yet

Thanks for trying. You may be right. As I said, the start switch hasn't even been set to start when this occurs, therefore the motor should not even be trying to start. My own suspicion is that it would possibly be the cycle selector. I will have to do a teardown to determine the issue at this point

Hi
Please unplug the dryer and check for any loose connections, burned contacts or loose power cord. If connection seems to be fine then try using the dryer with a different power socket. Hope this helps...please post back with make and model # for further assistance.

I believe it is the motor which has turned bad. You can check whether the electrical hum noise is coming from motor or the control panel. You can find the parts for your Hotpoint dryer from this link---

    Hope this help...

Sounds like the motor start winding or motor relay is bad.. or something caught in you exhast blower. See if you can turn the drum with your hand.. if so you can try, helping it take off while having someone turn the start knob if it starts you know its the motor

GE Dryer DWSR473GV0WW periodically just hums when turning on switch

if it hums when you start it means switch is ok. problem may be the motor capacitor. to check, take off the top and give the drum a push in the normal direction of rotation. if it goes then motor capacitor is faulty - cheap part
