Only know it is Asus Eee.

If I cannot get it to work is there a way to retrieve the data without being able to view display?

  • djhoughton14 Apr 09, 2011

Asus Eee Net book only display blue screen and bottom border.
ALT CTRL DEL does not do anything.
When I connect netbook to a computer monitor, I can see the Microsoft logo opening on the monitor then monitor goes to Auto Save.
I have tried to connect the Netbook to computer using USB, but computer does not recognize netbook.
I would like to get netbook running again but retrieving data from netbook is most important.

  • djhoughton14 Apr 09, 2011

I can view the netbook files on the monitor but net book is not recognizing USB drive.

    Cannot access to send documents.

Is there another way to recover files?

Hi,

Welcome to Fixya. It seems that the operating system of the machine is not working. Since you mentioned that you can use an external monitor can you check if you can still boot to SAFE Mode so that you will be able to retrieve the important files on the computer.

- Connect the Laptop to an external monitor then start the computer while it is on the POST screen tap F8. If you have the screen to select just select SAFE MODE.

- If you were able to access the SAFE MODE you can still retrieve the files using a USB stick.

Since you dont have a DVDROM you can use the hard drive recovery of Asus. Just click on the link below and use the first option the F9 Key Recovery.

Asus Hard Drive Recovery

Note: Just a heads up if all else fails then you need to bring the system to a service center to have it fixed.

If you have questions please let me know. Thanks for using Fixya

Yes you can. You can select Safe Mode With Networking rather than SAFE MODE then connect an ethernet cable on the netbook so that you have an internet connection and try to attach the file on your email and send it.

Go to your BIOS and locate boot disk priority. Make sure priority 1 is set to the hard drive with your operating system on it. You can then set boot disk priority 2 to your DVD drive. Also when you boot make sure you don't hav any unnecessary peripherals inserted like USB flash drives, camera's, dongles etc. Try to only have your mouse and keyboard inserted.

When I attach an external monitor the F5 key does not toggle to the external monitor although the external monitor shows the windows logo at bootup and then goes to test screen.

goto your control planel select display settings on the notebook to adjust the selected monitor. Than test monitor 1 or 2. What OS are you using it is alittle diffence. XP or vista; vista has personalization and xp go into display properties.

Blank monitor screen

First, IS THE SCREEN ON? You would be surprised but 92% of peoples problems are as simple as turning on the power. Second if it is on do you see anything, anything from a blip on the screen to a logo? I will be able to assist you further once I have this information.

Laptop boots up intermittently or screen freezes

basing on the information you have given here are the possible solutions:
remove any external device connected to your system (printer, external hard drive and others) if removing this does not work and still gets a blank screen with blinking cursor try to go to safe mode with networking. if successful try to download the driver for your video adapter.

when you try to start the computer , do get anything on the screen like a logo? when does the blank screen occurs, is it during the turning ON of the computer or during the windows xp logo appears on the screen?

a blank screen could be caused by the following: defective video adapter, corrupted video driver, defective memory, unknown device causing the issue like the hard drive, optical drive or other peripheral installed inside the computer.

try also using an external monitor
