Does it restart when it shuts off, or just stays off? If it restarts, then shuts down, then restarts again, it's likely a bad power supply unit.

On some models, an unplugged Processor fan will prevent the motherboard from starting. Check your fan connections. How have you determined that the PSU is functional? Is the PSU fan starting?

When i turn on my pc all seems well for about 5 secs then the heatsync fan and the tower fan stop moving and at that point my video card fan starts spinning 5 times faster what would cause this

Following are the reasons for overheating, just take care of these things::

1. Stop Overclocking your CPU
2. Make sure your Heat Sink is placed properly above the processor
3. Clean the Processor fan, Heat Sink and other peripherals
4. Use High Speed fans
5. Use CPU Heat Sink Paste in the processor
6. Make sure your dint restrict the speed of CPU fan.
7. Use Additional Cooling Units

If such problems occurs due to internal errors then i would suggest to perform a full computer scan with pc optimization tool like PCFresher for an instant fix.

I m no expert but it sounds like you need a new motherboard or at least your PSU. I had a similar problem and used the opportunity to have my techo genius up grade the mother board and a fresh PSU and upgraded to windows7 and everything works like a dream and much more power!!!!!

The power led of my compact desktop is green lighted and it is not starting the psu is ok and even the cpu fan is not working

use other processor, their might be a possible cause that your processor was been busted due to your cpu fan is not working.
Even the psu is working but if it is not enough to supply a power to your system their is also a big chance that you cannot achieve display on your system, so better to try first other psu before purchasing a parts.
hope it helps thanks.

Test your PSU or replace it if your power supply units fan is not working your PSU is faulty

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect/ boot up a computer hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your ((motherboard to your hard drive)) make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them there probably old and faulty
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they are probably old and faulty a computer needs its connections to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

dont forget to vote
hope this helps

Yesterday when i switched on my PC...some spark comes near cpu fan...then my ups is working properly and other accessories are working properly, but cpu alone not starting....there is no sound in...

Take a look closely at ur mobo, tell us where the spark came from? look also at the underside that may have touch the casing, check also the power connection from the PSU(Power Supply Unit) to the board connector!

PC SHUT down

three things i find to cause this,

one, the power supply is bad,
two, the power connector is lose or not push in
three, the heat sink on the processor has come off. This will cause the cpu to over heat and self shut off.

to test the power supply, pull the connector off the mother board and short the green wire to any black wire with a paper clip, this will switch on the power and see if it stays on.

if you need to replace it, you cannot use a regular atx power supply. E machines have a different pin out.

Connecting my PSU to my Motherboard

The bare essentials to start a computer are PSU, Motherboard, CPU, RAM and Video.

Its possible the PSU arrived DOA. Though I've only had 2 DOA PSU's in the 15 years I've been building custom computers.

Hope this helps.
