Hi and wel;come to FixYa I am Kelly,
Something caused the float to stick in the DOWN position or the float broke. As far as the engine not turning over... remove the spark plug as the cylinder is probably full of gas. It will take sometime to purge the cylinder head. Do yourself a huge favor and check the oil level. Sometimes a leaking carb will completely fill the engine crank case with gas! (i.e gas in the oil)

I can help you with repairing this engine. I do need to know the ENGINE number so I can get you the manuals you need to make the repairs at home. SERVICE Manuals I will pass you a link for will have step by step and pictures FYI.

For now what you can do is remove the fuel float bowl cover and clean out any debris in that area. Also shut off the fuel and remove the main fuel line to the carb. When you clean with carb cleaner make sure to shoot carb cleaner UP into the float needle area to try and flush out any debris via the carb fuel mainfold connection that you disconnected. Then shoot carb cleaner from the fuel line connection down through the float needle seating area.

Depending on which float you have (Plastic or metal) there can be other causes for the fuel overflow. The plastic float assemblies are NOT ver hearty and are notorious for leaking between the float plate and the base of the carb. The metal type floats can fill will fuel if there is a pin hole in it and cause the float level to always stay low causing the carb to overflow. If you have a metal float assembly give it a jiggle while it is installed and feel for any fliuds inside the float itself.

If you have to do any dis-assembly or carb overhaul work the manuals I will get for you will help you do that. I can also provide you with a parts source. I just need that engine model and engine number to do that for you.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Clean or change air filter. Clean, gap or change spark plug. Empty gas tank add fresh gas with Stabil. When spark plug is removed pull rope several times to blow out cylinder. Spray starter fluid in spark plug hole before replacing spark plug. Clean outside of carb so choke works freely. Spray starter fluid into carb breather hole with air filter removed and try to start. if running replace air filter and cover. If no start disassemble carb and clean. If no start replace carb.

My 1985 grand Marquis won't start I can pour gas

Take the gas filter off. Should be located near the front of the carbeurator, take off the air cleaner and look for it, it takes 2 wrenches to take it off, a little gas may spill out but not much and replace it, however there is a strong possibility that he gas pump is out if the filter is fine. Hope this helps

Saw won't start without starting fluid.

Sounds like you have a compression problem. Starting fluid will fire at a much lower compression than a gas/oil mix so that's why it will start with it. When the motor is running you get a little more compression because the piston is coming up so fast. You should check the condition of your cylinder wall and piston & ring. If they are damaged at all you loose compression which directly affects starting and running power.

19e412-0134-01 won't start. gas leaks out air

The float is stuck on the carb flooding the engine and leaking gas out of air filter. Remove the float bowl after the gas is turned of or drained. Thoroughly clean carb And bowl with carb cleaner. Reove the float {very carefully} if it is copper, shake it. If you here fuel in it then it is no good. If not then clean everything and reassemble. If it needs to be replaced, most small engine repair shops will have your parts.
